Units A declares a charge on Unit 1.
Unit B & C declares a charge on Unit 2.

Facing unfavourable odds, Unit 2 declares a flee charge reaction. As a result Unit B & C fail their charge.

The line is reinforced by the general on a chariot 12" away from both front units. There is little to no risk of being caught by Units B & C sweeping in.

The reinforced line is certainly a force multiplier when used correctly in battle. Though the examples shown are defensive, it is equally applicable in the offensive. I hope this sheds some like to those who have never used this formation before, or brings an appreciation to battle formations and tactics.
