| Framing is a process that requires careful attention to the artowrk that is going to be enjoyed for years to come. Art is a process - from the concept, creation, all the way to the framing...all of these steps play into the overall success of the piece. When framing it is important to consider to each of these key elements: 1. What medium was used to create the piece? Watercolor, pastel, acrylic, oil, charcoal, photograpgh, etc. 2. What type of material or media is the artwork on or have in it? Paper (there are a gazillion types, textures, and weights of papers), canvas, acrylic, glass, clayboard, etc. 3. Where any adhesives, fixatives or other mediums or any non-archival mediums used during the creation process? This might include: glues, tapes, newspaper, non-acid free papers, sealant or spray fixatives, gloss or gel mediums, foam core board, matting materials. 4. Aestethics. Is the piece enhanced by the frame and matting or display mount? (The answer should be Yes!). Pick something that brings out the focal point in the piece. The mat and frame shoudl be supporting characters to the main character.. the artwork. Afterall you want to be enjoy this investment and artistry for years to come. If done properly, your matting and framing will go with any decor and will not have to go with the theme or decor of a room becasue it is timeless and classic and accenuates the work, not distracts from it. 5. What will seal or cover the piece? I use only the highest quality UV protective with anti reflective clear plexiglass. There are certain occasions I use UV protective anti-reflective museum quality clear glass, typically this is only for pastel work. Plexiglass is lighter, will not break as easily, and allows for better viewing of the piece without all the refelction and glare. All this is standard and included with my framed work. You know it will be preserved properly, the piece could be removed at a later date if desired (not glued down to foam coare board etc., and will be proctecd from UV light damage over time. All my work is suspended or hanging mount so that it can breathe (expand and contract with humidty and temperature, this is very important over time. I work with a professional framer as well as custom select each mat and frame so that it best enhances the work for you to enjoy! |
