Bears - "Bear Baiting"
I recently got a letter in the mail about bears being visciously attacked by dogs for human entertainment.  This brutal "sport" is called "Bear Baiting" and has been illegal for many years now but some people are not following these laws.

The bears, after being take out of their natural habitat, get their teeth ripped out with pliers with no painkillers, nothing to stop the bleeding, and nothing to fight infections.  Their claws are also ripped out leaving the bear totally defenseless.  These helpless bears are now chained to a post and get mauled by attack dogs while thousands of spectators chear with excitement.  Some of these bears have to go through
several fights in one day with a few dogs in each fight.  Their muzzles are ripped to pieces and ears bitten severely.  Some of the younger bears are said to scream like a child from the pain that it is forced to endure.  After one fight, the bear will be "cleaned up" and "woken up" a little before more dogs are released into the arena to rip apart the bear even more.  Some of the bears put their faces to the ground and try to cover themselves with their paws while the disappointed crowd boos because the bear isn't trying to fight back.

Other bears that are ripped out of the wild, including baby cubs, are forced to endour torture in a different way.  A red hot spike is used to puncture the bear's flesh under the muzzle and driven out through her nostril.  The chain that is now going through the wound is used to "teach" the bear to respond to the "owner" by pulling on it.  Many times there is more than one puncture wound too since the punctures are not done with anything to fight infections.  The bear winds up getting infections and tumors which then forces the "owner" to puncture the bear in the face area again and again.  Unfortunetly, this is not the end of the torture for this bear.  He is now forced to walk onto "flame-heated metal plates".  In order to elleviate the pain as much as possible, the bear will lift its feet that are now getting severly burned.  While lifting its feet, the bear appears to be dancing while its actually sustaining life threatening wounds.

Both of these forms of torture are undescribebly sickening.  Although both of these are illegal it is still going on today.  Organizations are doing everything possible to ellimate these "sports" completely.  One organization fighting against this horrible torture is called WSPA, World Society for the Protection of Animals, which is where I got the infomation for this article.  They have their own article on this torture along with gruesome pictures so you can get the true impact of how horrible this really is.  Please visit their site and read their article at
