| FYI Feeling fractious over the way a game of blackjack was being dealt, Frank Sinatra told a South Korean dealer at Las Vegas' Golden Nugget to "go back to China." He then got her to alter the game by threatening never to sing at the casino again unless he got his way |

| Clutch combine elements of funk, Led Zeppelin and metal with vocals inspired by Faith No More. Formed in Germantown, Maryland, in 1991, the group built a dedicated local following through constant gigging. After just one seven-inch single, Clutch were signed by EastWest Records. Soon after, they released their 1993 debut album, Transnational Speedway League. Playing surprisingly poppy speed-rock, the band includes Neil Fallon (vocals), Tim Sult (guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean Paul Gaster (drums). Their second album followed in 1995, and in 1997 Clutch issued the rarities collection Impetus. By the end of 1997, the band had signed a major label contract with Columbia. Their first album for their new label, The Elephant Riders, was released in the spring of 1998. Pure Rock Fury followed three years later.

| Music Lesson 101 Corner This Lesson Explains "Frat Rock". Frat Rock was garage rock before there was garage rock big, dumb party music that was raw, ragged, and fun. Songs like "Double Shot of My Baby's Love" and "Louie Louie" singles that were so catchy and so simple, any band could cover them and sound good. These songs were favorites of covers bands in the early '60s, when local bands frequently played parties at fraternity houses. This scene, of course, was immortalized in John Landis' 1978 comedy classic Animal House, which affectionately sent up these pre-Beatles years. |
