| Episode 3: Biloxi to New Orleans Arrived in New Orleans about 9:00 pm. Checked in at the Marquette House hostel. We're doing the ultra-budget trip - hostels, camping, family and friends (and hopefully no more truck stops!). For $13.79 a night, you too can sleep on a kitchen sponge and cover yourself with a sheet of gauze. Oh wait, we had to rent the gauze for $2 a night! Actually it was fine. Just not a five star! |

| We were asleep by 10:00. We are probably the only tourists in New Orleans who were in bed that early. We decided to do our drinking during the day! That way there was no hangover! Wednesday morning we got up early. Walked through the Garden District which was only about two blocks from the hostel. The houses are great! We also walked through a typical New Orleans cemetery with the above-ground tombs. | ||||||||||||||||||||

| From the Garden District, we hopped on the St. Charles Street streetcar and rode downtown. After a stop at the New Orleans Public Library to work on the website, we walked to the French Quarter, where we stayed for the rest of the day. Walked down Bourbon Street. Missy bought a hurricane, so she would fit in with the other drunks. Went into numerous shops (that all had the same souvenirs) and stopped at Cafe du Monde for beignets (big wads of fried dough that were delicious!) and hot chocolate. Went to the French Market in search of more souvenirs for family members (alligator claws for everyone!). Just took it in, stumbled across House of Blues later. Before we headed back to the hostel for our 10:00 bedtime, we managed to wander into Fauborg Marigny, a neighborhood next to the French Quarter, where we visited a bookstore, had real Southern food at a restaurant, and topped it off with a drink at a local bar. | ||||||||||||||||||||
