Episode 2: Montgomery to Biloxi In order to not look like the Yankees that we are, it was necessary for us to wash the salt off the Honda. Somewhere (?) in Alabama, we took a wrong turn off the interstate looking for a rest'rant and we spied this establishment:

Missy did a pretty sorry job of washing the car. It is still streaked and nasty. She blames the equipment, but we still fit in much better now. And for a dollar, what can you expect?

We took a quick trip through downtown Mobile as we reached the Gulf Coast. We saw the full range of poor to rich. The most-neglected housing projects we've seen and then giant, old houses along Government Street with its canopy of live oak trees. We took a wrong turn downtown and ended up going through a tunnel to the other side of some river (Jenny, the geography major, is shamed.) The road went right along the Gulf Coast, so we got some great views of the port. Missy saw a little cove of houseboats and wanted to pull over to shoot some film (non-digital - sorry). It was an interesting little collection of houseboats and fishermen's boats. (Missy called it Houseboat Holler.) There were several groups of fishermen bringing in shrimp and fish. There was also a pelican, to Missy's delight (she's easily entertained). The water inspired us to find a beach, so we headed west on US 90 in Mississippi. Just east of Biloxi, we found Front Beach in Ocean Springs, MS. Missy grabbed some shots of the scenery. Biloxi is in the background. This scene looked completely different after the sun went down. The tall buildings are Biloxi's casino row - very neon.
