Every genealogist has one...the
dreaded
Let me introduce you to mine:
Here's what I know about
the guy:
-
He was born in either 1865 (according to the stone
pictured below) or 1870 (according to census and cemetery records) and
died on August 19, 1935.
-
He was married to the former Mae Hughes.
-
According to the 1920 Census, he lived as a boarder
in the home of Henry Vogt at 1715 North 8th Street in Philadelphia.
He had never been married at that point.
-
At the time of his death he was residing at 1217 North
11th Street in Philadelphia.
-
He died from chronic myocarditis.
-
He was buried by H.B. Mulligan.
-
He worked as an "assistant chief clerk" in room 162
of City Hall in the 1920's.
What I don't know
is this:
-
Why he is buried in the Call family plot at
Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia.
See, there he is, right between Morris
and Alice.
Just so you know who everyone else is:
-
Joseph Sr. was my great-great grandfather.
-
Emma was his wife.
-
William H., David L., and Morris
M. were three of his four sons.
-
Alice was David's wife.
Also buried in the plot, but not shown on
the stone, are Joseph Call, Jr., (the fourth son) and Joseph
& Catherine Forsyth (Emma's sister and brother-in-law).
So everyone who's buried in this plot is somehow
related to the family.
Except Julius.
It's driving me nuts.
Who is this guy? How did he end up planted
with the Calls and their kin?
There's an even number of people in the plot:
ten all together. William never married. Morris' wife Lena
is buried in Valley Forge, and I assume Joseph Jr.'s wife Nellie
is also buried elsewhere. So that made room for this Jacoby fellow.
Perhaps he bought the plot off someone in the family? Well, I suppose he
must have, but whom? And why?
This is what I'd like to know.
Morris and Lena's son was my maternal
grandfather, who died before I was born; my mom has never heard of Julius
Jacoby. I don't know if Joseph Jr. or David have any
descendants who might know, but I'm working on that.
If you have any information about Julius
Cease Jacoby, please contact me. [jenbird72 at verizon dot
