The Story of Trent

For those of you who don't know me.

A picture of me can be found at the bottom of the page.

I was born in Paddington Hospital Sydney Australia on the 17th of Febuary 1981. As at the time of writing I am 19, and do not have any brothers or sisters. The life I led in between then and about year 8 or 9 in high school have faded into irrelevance throuought the years... and the really important stuff really began in 1997 when I discovered classical music for real, and became involved in it. I had always loved classical music since I first heard a Mahler on the radio, (that was at about age 5, and I had no Idea what it was or why I liked it, I just knew it was better than anything else I had ever heared in my life before that.)
Now I know that it was the First Symphony of Mahler I had heard on that day... How do I know? well that melody stuck with me, along with that characteristic string chord, and trumpet fanfares of the opening.

Between there and high school I attended Sans Souci Public School and picked up the Trumpet by age 7 and played in the School Concert band.
In 1992 my trumpet abilities scored me a full school scolarship at a private school in Menai / Bangor in Sydney's south. That school was Inaburra Babtist College. It was really this school which consolidated my Christianity, which had been partly there since about age 7 also. Throuought my days at Inaburra, my Trumpeting slowly improved, and I became known as the school Trumpeter. Although I became a reasonable Trumpeter (and probably with a reputation quite a bit larger than my actual ability at the time) my musical knowledge did not really expand much at all. I wouldn't have been able to tell Mahler apart from Shostacovich, or even Purcell! Composers were that wierd unpronauncable name which didn't matter, printed on the side of that Boosey & Hawlks Symphonic Concert band Reduction edition. (I wince now at the murderous renditions of great music we did at Concert band! maybe it was a good thing I was Ignorant of the actual pieces.) Another big event from this time was my involvement with Sutherland Shire Brass band (formally Sutherland Shire Silver Band). This was a great thing and kept my playing standard high quite well. The Sutherland band competed (and still does) in many competitions, including the State and National brass band Championships held every year. The Nationals have been held in places such as Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to name but a few. These made for some very cool trips. Many by Plane :-) Championship music is very difficult, and even in orchestras, I am still yet to come accross pieces that are as technecally hard to play as some of the pieces we have had to play in the Brass Band Competitions.
Somewhere around 1996 and 1997 I decided music was for me as in career choice. And I bought my first CD recording of a symphony. An odd thing... It was a recording of Carl Vine's first 3 symphonies. Carl Vine is an Australian composer, and I loved his music so much back then. (I even like to listen to it now and then nowadays. It is still great music.)
But it was really 1998 which opened my horisons, and when I dilegantly began to explore music finally. I was accepted into the Conservitorium of Music's Access Program, and into the Sydney Youth Orchestra Association's Philharmonic Orchestra. This is when music suddenly began to take on much more meaning than just mere technique. Suddenly I found out that some of the music I loved had other things attatched to them. From Famous events being commemerated to visions of war, to Ballet companies having riots during premiers (aka. Le Sacre du Printemps). My CD collection grew and grew, along with my knowledge. And then in 1999 I was accepted into the Conservitorium of Music to do my Batchelor Course in Music / Performance. My once hobby had turned into a full time carrer choice. I needed a new Hobby!
Now that music was a cross between carrer and love. My hobby choice turned up under my nose without me noticing. For a Christmas/Graduation present, I was presented with the Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Now I was on the net, And had the greatest Flightsim released to that date!
I do not need to describe any more right? you have seen the title page...

You may be asking about the Star Wars part of the site.
Well in 1999 Episode I the phantom menace was released in theateres. I hadn't been a Starwars fan really before that event.
But NOW look at me :-)

(me dressed up as Jenat-Lai, with the white Lightsabre!)

I have also written a little page about being a Trumpet Player. Accessible from THIS LINK.
