Week
3
This week we will be integrating physical education and foreign language into the unit lessons.
Day 1 & 2 - Super Ball Physics - (Activity 7)
This activity should be split up over a two day period each class period consisting about 45 minutes to a hour. The needed materials include a large supply of various types of balls to demonstrate some that bounce well, some that don't bounce at all, and some that bounce only a few times. A meter stick [or better, a two meter stick] is needed for each set-up. This activity may be challenging for a physically handicapped student, who will need to work with a partner or be the teacher's helper.
Day 3&4 - Velocity and Physics in Sports - (Activity 8)
This lesson will take two days of science time, one time being an hour, and the other session will take about 30 to 45 minutes. The necessary materials are (for each group) Two stop watches, one meter stick or tape, roll of masking tape or chalk, notebook paper, pen, calculator (optional) (for teacher) Five-minute video of Olympic competition, bulletin board with pictures of multi-cultural sports activities, chalkboard for graphs or three pre-printed graph poster boards, sports vocabulary in Spanish and English (sports-deportes) (velocity-velocidad) (speedometer-cuentakilometros) (at full speed-a toda velocidad) (Olympic-Olimpico). This lesson will need to be adapted to physically handicapped children, and to children with poor math skills.
