I See, You See, We All See Speed!!
Objective:
Students will use their creativity and their knowledge of speed and velocity to create an illustration for the classroom.
Indiana Science Standards Addressed:
5.3.12 Explain that objects move at different rates, with some moving very slowly and some moving to quickly for people to see them.
4.6.1 Demonstrate that in an object consisting of many parts, the parts usually influence or interact with one another

Estimated Time:
This activity should take a half our to forty-five minutes, depending on how many perfectionists you have in your class.
Procedure:
Take all of your students and the outside into an open area where your students can spread out.
Have each child take an easel and the art supplies that he or she chooses.
Tell them to set up where no one else will cause them a problem in making the perfect piece of artwork.
Ask your students to observe what they see in nature, and design a picture of something that has speed and motion. (bird, leaves, the grass, etc.)
Give the student the rest of the time to do their best work.
Put the pictures on display for everyone else to see and title them; I see, You see, We all see SPEED!!
Also, have each child write a short paragraph about the elements of motion that are displayed in their picture.

By doing this activity children will observe the elements of speed and motion that are displayed in nature.
