Coos Bay Area State Parks Photo Gallery

This is Sunset Bay which is a state park near Coos Bay, Oregon.

This is a picture take near Shore Acres State Park which is just south of Sunset Bay. To the left of this bay there were hundreds of seals swimming around and hanging out on the rocks.

This is part of Shore Acres State Park which is an excellent example of what happens when two tectonic plates collide and one slides under the other. You can barely tell in this picture, but the layers of rock on the bluff in the background are at about a 45 degree angle from the ocean.

Another picture at Shore Acres State Park. There is a nice hiking trail (the Oregon Coast Trail) connecting Shore Acres with Sunset Bay and with Cape Arago State Park which is just to the south of Shore Acres.

This is a very famous scene for Oregon photography because when the waves are really high, they will crash into and over the big rock in the center of the photo. They weren't very high when I was there. Here is another good example of the angled rock layers.
