POST 1 CONTINUED
Will religion die? personally I don't think so and the text says the same thing for the most part. Why? As has been seen through the centuries religion has adapted to new meanings and to new truths. Some Christians for instance as given in the text believed the Bible somwhere said the earth was flat, (personally I don't know
how someone would get that from the Bible since it's never mentioned what the earth is like and where we are in the planet system) and they wanted and killed people for thinking otherwise until it was
changed that the earth was really round. I think some religions have adapted better then others and those religions are non- existent. But for the most part 6 major world religions have survived thousands of years. Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism. Each has some minor to major
changes since it's inception into culture. Many of these groups have different forms or denominations of it. I do however, feel that it is possible for some religions to stay with the basics, I do feel that personally in being a Christian some people who claim their faith in our religion have a misunderstanding of the Bible and
make it say what they want it to say and think others should pay for thier error. I fully disagree and think it ridiculous. I feel that their are simple teachings in the Bible that if followed correctly
can be just like it was followed by Paul the apostle. You can disagree and I won't pretend like I know I'm 100% right. I'm human and I'm fully aware I can make intelligent mistakes. Memes are things that are passed on and imitated, this is required for them to continue on. They are things that are thought provoking
and cause you to remember them even when your thoughts are on other things. For instance the famous WWJD that some Christians used.   And finally I feel Lane's claims are extremely interesting and I
agree with him. How do you really know that what you are feeling is meaning that your diety is real when someone else can feel the same thing and believe that means the same thing. I often hear
Christians claim even I myself once claimed, it's because I would feel a tingly sensation during worship or etc, and that was God breathing on you or surrounding you or etc. I don't doubt that God can surround you however, I can't tell someone else that might have felt that experience but thought it was their God that they are
wrong. As I'm not in their shoes and they are not in mine. I do feel that it does however mean their is a spiritual awareness our bodies are able to pick up, and it's up to us to chose which "spirit" it is. Is the best way I can describe. I also feel you must chose your religion based on it's ideals and historical facts involved. So I agree with Lane that the mysticism doesn't neccessarily mean absolute truth.
POST TWO
Out of the different Guru's that I read I found an interest in several. The first of the three that I liked the most was Ramana Maharshi "The Sage". I liked him because of his inert peace with nature and realizing that all things were made for a purpose and the circle of life goes through it's path. He realizes that we are here
as visiters and this is not our permanent ground. The fact that he apologized to a hornets nest for stepping on it proves that he knows he's the one who caused their aggression. I get very upset when people kill animals, for instance dogs, because they bit someone.   Yet, when you look at the whole picture usually something or someone provoked that aggression in the dog and he/she was merely defending himself the way nature taught him too. It is of no fault of the dog and I feel as such he/she should not be punished. I also like him
because of his theories of thought and consciousness and the fact that just because the body is dead does not mean that life ends. I love his attitude towards those that hurt him. For instance in the text when the thieves broke into his "ashram" he felt no anger towards them and even asked them if they would like to strike his
other leg. He knew that they would get what was coming to them in their own time.
The second Guru that I liked was Acharya Sushil Kumar "the Monk". I liked him for the fact that he tried to find the solution to things not just mask the symptons. He wanted to cure the disease, not give
the sore throat a cough drop. For instance instead of focusing just on Nuclear disarmament he wanted to first go for peace and learn what causes human aggression and anger. He realized it was because
we are selfish and are afraid of the non-self in others and other distant things that we are not used to. He taugh the love for others and to treat others like you'd want to be treated. Not just a man of words but a man of action which I think puts him above most.
The third guru I liked the most was "the Mother" Yogini Mataji for the fact that she had an astound reality that all things in nature and all things created where that of God and were aspects of God and she looked upon that to help her to see God and know God. Also the fact that she acted like a real person, as the writer of this
excerpt talks about the fact that she was smoking when the writer was saying goodbye caused the writer to realize that even guru's are still human. People sometimes forget that our leaders, our spiritual advisors, our hero's, and etc. are still human beings and adapt to all things given here on earth and can make "mistakes" if
you call them that as well as all of us. The point in all of this is not to focus on the outward but to focus on the inward beauty of ourselves and the spirit world found within us.
My understanding of surat shabd yoga was not very good. I had and still do have trouble understanding what exactly it is saying. Most likely because of the fact that I have never experienced something like it nor do I know anyone that has therefore just reading it I feel I am missing an important piece of it that I feel would be
complete if I heard it from another person. Basically from what I've read I understand that the main focus of it and it's goal of attainment is to hear the spiritual world and understand your inner self through it. The first few steps involve chanting your guru or spiritual adivsor's name in your head to put focus on him/her, next
is to focus on the third eye which is the key or eye to the spiritual world, once that's complete you start to see lights of the other world as you meditate and concentrate on the feeling and lights and sound of the spiritual world, you then travel to the spiritual place and see and hear through your third eye. Then there
are several doors you pass through with experiences that are just your own, as they have not been written down, i.e. the tenth door as mentioned in the article. It is said that your body will become
essentially lifeless and described as someone being pronounced clinically dead yet revived by doctors into recounsciousness. YOu in essence leave your physical state and body and focus into your
mind and spirit. I hope I understood this correctly.
