RELIGION MID TERM
Question 11:

Hmmm, I really think Buddhism has fascinated me the most and Im not sure which sect the local Buddhist temples would fall under but I guess Mahayanists would impress me the most for their openness in things.  What fascinated me the most about Buddhism was not from the reading or the Wisdom of the Buddha book but from my field trip to the Hsi Lai temple in Hacienda Heights.  I was absolutely amazed at the DEVOTION of these people in their artwork and in their building of this temple.  Never have I seen a religious building more beautiful and more intricately built then this place.  I was amazed by the fact that it wasnt just people from their ethnic group that were there and that I wasnt the only Caucasian person there.  I was amazed at how nice their monks and nuns were and their dedication to live, sleep, and eat there, and ability to leave their families, friends, and etc. for their religion.  The ability to not worry about being taken care of and not having money, or having to have bills, or a car and etc.  Absolutely amazing.  I am fascinated by the fact that when they bow they are not worshipping the Buddhas but bowing in respect.  The fact they dont believe that Buddha is a god.  Their loving nature, and peacefulness, astounds me.  Their teachings were very nice and the fact that all I saw there was them being exactly what their teachings state.  Too often do I see other religions including my own put on a Sunday mask for church and turn back to the real thing on Monday.  These people dont do that Sunday-Saturday they are Buddhists and show it 24/7.  I am intrigued by their desire to find nirvana and wanting to know what a nirvana experience is like.  I guess just absolutely amazed at their devotion to their religion.
