For
reasons best keep secret by Maiden's promotional team it would seem that
our Spanish friends have got all the luck in the promotional department.
Very much like the Canadians, Americans and the Japanese; the Spanish have
been treated to some of the best Maiden promotional material around. Take
the ludicrously rare Where Eagles Dare promo 7`` vinyl
and the ultra rare No Prayer For The Dying
promo LP in custom plastic sleeve to name but two. Add these to your
collection and you'd could go bed each night well happy!
Yes the Spanish have got it
good!!!
Which leads to the much admired
Wasting Love promo vinyl from away back in the early 1990s.
Now to add spice to this promo issue there is two copies that exist. One
is the standard vinyl in white sleeve and the other is the same vinyl
but comes in an Eddie Vampire postcard sleeve with print on the back.
Both versions have the same
vinyl so let's take a closer look at that:
This promo is a one track with
Wasting Love album version being on sides A + B.
The vinyl has no center.
The vinyls label is a dull
yellow with black print. Obviously the majority of the print is in Spanish.
Copyright information around the edge of the label, again in Spanish is
in red. At the bottom center of the label is EMI in red. Both sides are
exactly the same save for the A and B denoting sides.
Looking more closely at side
A - imagine the vinyl in front of you. Text reads from left to right.
IRON MAIDEN (above record hole)
Produccion: Martin Birch y Steve Harris
ESTEREO 45 R.P.M (left of record hole)
006 1225707 Dep. Legal (right of record hole)

1. WASTING LOVE - 5:46 (Dickinson/
Gers) (below record hole)
(P) Grab. Sonora orig. realizada por Iron Maiden Holdings
Ltd., con licencia exclusiva a EMI Records Ltd., 1992
(P) Publicado, con licencia del propietaria, por
EMI-Odeon, S.A., Madrid. Espana, 1992
This information is repeated
on side B. However under 45 R.P.M. reads Fabricado por Iberofon, S.A.
As with all promos have a good
look at the run off grooves. Very often, if the authenticity of a piece
is in doubt then this is the area that will not be copied by bootleggers
or Counterfeiters.
Peering VERY closely at the
run off groove for side A revels the following -
006 1225707 - A+ B IN3 DOPOP
it is very difficult to make out the last DOPOP print as it has been hand
written on to the vinyl.
Side B all reveals the same
markings.
Which leads me to the price
- undoubtedly an extremely rare and essential piece of Maiden kit for
the aspiring collection. This will set you back anything between £40
- £75/ $56 - $105. The picture postcard sleeve may push the
price slightly higher.
That's one of the rare Spanish
promos covered. Where Eagles Dare is up soon
.
