Leia (left, 1999-2004) and Jemmy (Right,1999-2002)
From this point in it gets confusing. Leia was definately a girl, but when we got Jemmy we thought the same was true, hence the name. Unfortunately Jem turned out to be not only male but a bit of a stud. He fathered countless offspring before we decided to have him undergo a certain medical procedure... Jemmy was the cuddliest, vanest, most handsome creature on the planet. He didn't have a malicious bone in his body and was devoted to Leia. And yes. He was my model for Sexy Dexy Berlingside! I'm sure you can see the resemblance! Leia rather enjoyed her widowhood, not that she wasn't fond of Jemmy, but I think she appreciated having her own place. She was always going to outlive Mara and Jemmy: you could see from the start that was what she intended! Leia was my 'beachball'. She grew corpulant in old age due to her undiminished love of food, plus her over-stretched girth through countless litters of baby pigs! She also had a condition called 'fatty eye' which resulted in her lower lid dropping underneath the muscle of the lower eyelid. It made her look like Lady Bracknell! Leia died in April 2004 of a lymphatic tumor, the same thing that had killed Solo two years before. She was our second longest lived pig. Gone but not forgotten! Her hutch fell to pieces the day after she died. Spooky, huh?

This pic of Indy may look rather fierce but I assure you that he was only yawning. Still, I count this as the finest picture I have ever taken! Indy had an expensive taste in fish (he liked Koy carp out of people's ponds). His hobbies included beating up the local cats and chasing foxes. Indy was a big, powerful cat - from the bottom of the garden he looked more like a Fresian cow than a feline! The day we had him put to sleep was probably the worst day of my life so far, and strangely enough after two years and two wonderful cats later - I still miss him dreadfully.

Jason 1977-1989
Jason had this way of looking at you. If he didn't like what he saw he would literally glare at you (See above). This included getting cameras thrust in his face instead of being fed whenever he demanded (See above). But he was an old softy. He hated cats and loved to bash them up, and was constantly arriving home on his tour of the territory with cuts in his ears and scratches on his nose. I can only assume that he won the fights: I'd hate to have seen the state of the other cat! He did however like kittens. He never fought them, in fact he'd take them under his wing and mentor them - waiting until they grew up. Then he bashed them up as well. Poor Jason was rather susceptible to fleas. There was a plague of them in 1980 and we all got bitten to within an inch of our lives! He hated the flea powder as well. It was beneath his dignity to go outside covered in what looked like Talcum powder! I once cleaned his teeth using my mum's toothbrush and some Colgate toothpaste. He spent the day foaming at the mouth, poor boy. I was only six at the time and I blame mum for saying that his breath was terrible and his teeth badly needed cleaned! I don't think Jason spoke to me for days afterwards! Inspite of this he was lovely to people he knew, and liked nothing better than to sit on your knee and then get higher and higher until he was virtually sitting on your head, purring. Miss you, old boy!

Dyllan, Oct 31st 1999-2004 Despite the fact he resembled a cross between a demented Ewok and a brillopad, Dyllan had his father's (Jemmy) charm and mother's looks. At least we think Leia was his mother; we never did find out if it was her or Mara as they both had their litters within hours of each other... Dyllan's partner was Zebedee, who I don't think I have any pictures of, which is a pity because she was very striking to look at. I know we have film of her on the Camcorder as a baby pig. She died in 2002. We then put Tangles, Amber's daughter in with him but she also died prematurely, leaving Dyllan to enjoy his bachelor existence. Amongst the other pigs we've kept were Mouse and Scarlet (father and son). Mouse was one of those unfortunate pigs that died tragically young. We had to have him put down because continual trouble with his teeth meant that he was unable to eat. Scarlet attained the age of three but had constant health problems with an abcess in his jaw. I used to love watching Amber and Scarlet competing over the same bit of food! I have pics of Amber and Mara so I can at least put them up on the site, or at least I will when I scan them in. I don't know if we have any of Mouse or Scarlet. It's possible that Lorraine has.
