Dusty (left 1987-1990), Scruff (centre 1987- 1989), Sandae (Right, 1986-1993)
Scruff belonged to my sister. I used to think he was ugly, but he just had oodles of personality, and to be fair he was pretty smart. He was sort of pig-plus. Sandae was such an intelligent creature, she was actually Scruff's mother. How she produced something so different in looks I do not know! She lived for six years and I got very attached, which meant that I howled like a baby when she died. Dusty had the loudest voice I have ever heard in an animal full stop. She could hear the chopping board from downstairs, which signalled breakfast...

"SQUEAK-SQUEAK-SQUEAK-SQUEAK'...

Lorraine knows what I mean
Solo 1998-2002
Solo was a smart cookie. We got him after a gap of roughly five years after Sandae's death, so he was the first of the new wave of piggies. One of the first things he did was nibble a hole in Lorraine's fave T-Shirt. He only liked me, see? He was a one-woman piggie and a real character - with a passion for green beans! Lorraine has film of him on her Camcorder which brings tears to my eyes to watch: it's like he's still alive.

Here's Dusty!
Baby Tarrant, a few days old
1988-1991

If I've ever done a good deed then it was saving Tarrant's life, as she'd been rejected by her mother who had a large litter of bigger and more boisterous babies looking for her attention. I managed to persuade her mother to take her back rather than leave her on her own in a corner. I'd never seen a Guinea-Pig that colour before! She took after her mother, Dusty, although less of a dove grey and more of a light chocolate shade. The size she took from her father, Scruff - although she did grow to reasonable proportions for a runt. She lived for three and a half years.

And yes- an odd choice of name for a Guinea-Pig. She was named after my fave character from tv show Blake's 7!
Tarrant as an adult, circa 1990
Minty 1991-1991

A short life and a merry one for our most glamorous pig until Amber arrived on the scene. After Dusty died I bought her as a companion for Tarrant, and they got on quite well. Sadly, Minty died of an intestinal complaint aged less than a year old.
