When I started the Starlight Jukebox, there was hardly any Jem music available on the internet. Back in 1998 when the Jukebox began, Mp3's were still unknown to a lot of people, including myself. Real Audio was the only real choice - small downloads for fairly good quality. However, after Mp3's came along, a lot of things changed. Fans have become more selfish.
I've tried to be patient and believe the best of Jem fans, but I can't do it anymore.
I'm announcing that this group will no longer be active. The files have been deleted - there will be no more Mp3's...The remixes have also been removed, and I won't be adding any in the future.
So, why no more Mp3s? Very simple. I'm sick and tired of getting ripped off. I really believe in the sharing system - I upload a high-quality version of a song for everyone else to have without charging them or asking for anything in return. All I ask is, just respect that gesture. Don't take advantage of it, or be an opportunistic greedy bastard, and sell the music.
But that's exactly what a lot of people are doing. I don't even like to see the regular Jem songs sold, but I really get angry when I see people selling CD copies of my remixes on Ebay. Those remixes were made for everyone to hear for FREE. I made them for fun, and enjoyment, and I can tell you it certainly ruins the feeling to know someone just ripped me off to make a quick buck.
Anyone who tries to sell them is a scumbag. I don't even believe *I* have a real "right" to sell the remixes, but if anyone does, it's me. Nobody else. I don't care if I'm hurting anyone's feelings by saying this - You should know better.
Even more recently I've discovered, much to my disappointment, that there are only a few real Jem fans who want to share the music with others for nothing in return - just for the joy of knowing you're helping someone else enjoy the music. Most of you only want to collect as much music as possible to further your own purposes or egos.
All I'm doing is spoon-feeding Mp3s to people who will just take, take, take. Why the hell should I bother?
I know some of you may think there must be a way to continue, without letting those people spoil it for everyone. Well, there isn't. Some of the people selling those blasted Jem CD's are on this very list (I know who you are).
As for the actual Jem Jukebox, it will remain intact, but there will be no updates or Mp3s added. I'm closing the Audiophile Booth, and don't bother requesting anything because you won't get it.
There are enough websites with the songs available for download. And there are a few fair traders out there, so if you spend some time and make the effort, you can find whatever you're looking for. There is no reason for me to be a part of this anymore, so I'm getting off the Jem train here.
A final word to those who don't have the songs and want them: DON'T PAY ANYONE A SINGLE CENT FOR THEM! Trade something for them. And don't just deal with the first person you find - seek out the generous fans. You will be happier for it.
Thank you for reading. Have a nice life.
