| Demybella seeing her tom being hugged by Vimala made her steaming angry. She pounced onto Macavity and both her and Vimala faught over who was hugging the most of Macavity. Macavity groaned. "That is it! Get off of me, Get off of me NOW!" Macavity threw the two queens off of him and rushed forward away from them. "Aghhh! I can't beleive the stupid webmistress put me up to this!" >>Can it Mac and do your Job!! Don't make me show those embarassing photo's of you hugging a newborn kitten!!!<< "Grrrrr!!! This is the stupid Name Meaning's page. Here the webmistress thought it would be fun to discuss the meaning behind each of our unique names...There I said it, you happy??!!!" Demybella and Vimala squealed once they got up from their rough fall, and grabbed a hold of each of his arms. "MACCY! Did you know I luuurve you?" Vimala pulled on his one arm. "Don't listen to her, I luuuurve you more!!" Demybella pulled on his other arm. Macavity stood there being pulled back and forth, grumbling. |

| -I put a lot of effort, thought, and research into this page. I looked at a bunch of different CATS related sites, Name sites, Dictionaries, Behind the Name/ Name meaning sites, so I hope I did all these names right. And above all have fun. ^.^ Admetus: -"Kind and Sweet" in Greek. Not totally sure about that, but Admetus was the name of a Greek King who was a very kind, gentle and hospitable man. Alonzo: -"Noble and Ready; Battle" From Old German. You know, Ready for Battle. It's interesting that this totally explains his jellicle personality. Asparagus: -"Staff of the Goths" From English/Scottish. 'Gus' is a form of Gustav, and many others, but the other's really didn't make sense. Asparagus is a vegetable, but the jellicle was probably named after Gus, the theatre cat. Bill Bailey: -"Will or Desire; Bailiff" in English. Bill is a form of William, and Bailey is a surname for Bailiff. I'm not sure how Bailey comes into play for this jellicle, but he's got an amazing will or desire to do back flips and such. ^.^ Bombalurina: -"Aluring" Not sure. Well okay, Bomba is a Puerto Rican salsa type music, I listen to it all the time. Anyway Lurina, or Alurina sounds like Aluring, right? Plus it fits. Bombalurina is a very saucey queen and likes to get all the toms attention. ~.^ Bustopher Jones: -"To bear/carry; Gracious" in English. This one is a stretch, I went off the fact that Bustopher looks and sounds like Christopher, and Jones is a form of Jon. In a more literal sense, Bustopher does carry a lot of wieght. >.< Carbuckety: -"Chariteer; Male Deer" in English. No he is not a deer, he is a he. Carbey was a form of another name that meant Chariteer, and then used the form of Buck. Chariteer's were wild, and Carbuckety is pretty energetic. So you decide. Cassandra: -"To Shine" in Greek. She was actually a Greek Prophet. Prophet's are always mysterious, and so is Cassandra, plus Cassandra does have her shining moments. ^.^ Coricopat: -"Ravine;Choir" in English. Well the obvious, Corie means ravine, which is a deep and narrow valley, and then Coric, probably is a form of Choric, which means Choir. Coricopat probably has a 'deep' personality, and seems to really enjoy singing. Ah ah, I did it. Demeter: -"Earth Mother" in Greek. Not sure how that relates, but Demeter was a greek goddess and had a very sensitive personality, and had many mood swings. So you could see it that way, since Demeter (Jellicle) is pretty sensitive and her mood changes drastically all the time. Electra: -"Amber" in Greek. Amber is a pale yellow, but can sometimes be a reddish or brownish. And Electra does have some red and brown in her. Electra was also a Greek Princess, and one of the muses in Greek. I believe there is a star named after her as well. Etcetera: -"Continuing, So on and on" in Latin. Makes sense right, Cettie is so full of energy you don't think she's ever going to stop. Exotica: -"Exotic things or objects; Foreign" from Greek. Makes sense, since she technically was made just for the video, 'Foreign'. George: -"Earthworker" in Greek. Not sure how this relates to George, though I don't know his personality. ::Cries:: George was the name of some guy who was known as a dragon slayer in Palestine. Thought that was interesting. Genghis: -"Universal Leader" Origin unknown. It's perfect really. Since Genghis was a Leader at sea especially when he defeated Growltiger. Griddlebone: -"Peace; White" In Old Norse. Well I took Grid, which means Peace, and Bone in this case probably means the color of, which would be white or ivory. Also in Norse Myths, she was a frost giantess,...Frost, Winter...White...Well I think it fits. Not sure where the peace comes into play, maybe during her whole duet with Growltiger. Grizabella: -"Grey; Beautiful" In German. Could also mean rough and old, from Grizzled. I think they are all accurate. Grizabella used to be beautiful, now she's kind of tired and old. Plus she's Grey. It all works out. ^.^ Growltiger: -"Angry; Intimidating" Many origins that all trace back to Iranian. Totally fits, Growltiger is mainly angry and tries to intimidate his shipmates and neighboring shore villages. Well until Griddlebone comes along. Gus: -"Staff of the Goth's" From English/Scottish. And Yes that's what Gus means, there was a few other meanings but they made even less sense. So we'll stick with this one. Jellylorum: -"Consistent; Flower; Difficult" in Basque. This one was chopped up and taken out of context a little bit, but it's still a pretty good description. Okay, She's pretty agreeable, I think she's as pretty as a flower (plus she opens up in most productions-in referance to a blooming flower), plus she has a difficult side, usually seen around Gus. Jemima: -"Dove" in Hebrew. She was the oldest of the three daughters of Job in the old testament. Also Dove usually symbolizes Peace, and I think Jemima does in a way, also. Jennyanydots: -"Fair/Smooth; Symbol" A cornish form. This one was chopped up and close to possible as could be. (Since most of these were made up names by T.S Eliot or Andrew Lyod Webber.) Seeing as how Jenny's sort of a teacher, she has to be fair, and though not really fat or lazy, she symbolizes those things. That poor queen. Macavity: -"Weapon" in Old French. I used his nickname. Could also mean 'Son' from his nicname Mack. I believe T.S. based Macavity from an evil guy in a Sherlock Holmes book. Mistoffelees: -"Haze; Lucky" in Latin. This one was hard, but look I did it, muwahahaha. Not entirely sure I broke it up. Anywho, he does create a lot of 'haze' since he's magical, and he's one lucky little tom. Mungojerrie: -"Gentle/Kind; Sacred" mixture of Scottish and Greek origin. Mungojerrie can be kind and gentle, but he's more funny and a bit of a badboy. (He works for Macavity, hello?) Munkustrap: -"Order/Obedience; Secure" From Middle English. This one was taken a little out of context but it was all right there in his name. Its a perfect fit if you ask me. Old Deuteronomy: -"Unknown" Probably something to do with Law in Hebrew though. Deuteronomy was a book in the Old Testament and introduced the second mosiac law. Plus Old Deuteronomy is old. Plato: -"Broad-Shouldered" in Greek. Plato was actually a very successul and famous Greek scholar, or Philospher. Pouncival: -"Leap; Pierce the Valley" Old French form. This is a combination of Pounce and Percival smooshed together. Not sure where the Vally comes into play, but this jellicle tom does leap and pierce a lot. Quaxo: -"In Capacity of Character" in Latin. Well makes sense, since Quaxo is usually just Mistoffelees alter-ego. Rum Tum Tugger: -"Difficult; Stomach; Contest" From Romain. This was chopped into three parts. The Rum Tum Tugger is difficult, he always shakes his torso and moves his stomach a lot, and personally I think he's in contest with the other toms over the ladies, and is obviously winning. Rumpleteazer: -"Ruffle/Tousle; Attention Getting" most likely from Middle Dutch. She seems to fit her name meaning perfectly. She's not straight and narrow, her personality is ruffled abit, and she's a huge center of attention kind of gal. Rumpus Cat: -"Noisey/Violent Commotion Cat" Of unknown origin. Though this is a very perfect name for him. He seems very laid back and quite noisey. Plus he always seems to make a big entrance or commotion. ^.^ Sillabub: -"Silly; Devil" in Hebrew. This was originally just Silly smooshed together with Beezlebub, which means Devil. Sillabub is usually very playful and a little bit naughty pranking others. Perfect fit. Skimbleshanks: -"Rambling; Auspicious" From Sanskrit Elements. Not totally right, but very very darn close if I do say so myself! ^.^ Skimble can ramble on in his song, if you haven't noticed, and he does seem to be favored by the kittens. (He is very lucky) Anyway, That's him in a nutshell. Tantomile: -"Twin" in Hungarian. Now I actually couldn't find Tanto...So I used the middle, Tomi. And well Tomi is the Hungarian pet form of Thomas, which means Twin. How coincidental, right? Tumblebrutus: -"To Roll about; Heavy" in Latin. Taken apart using Tumble & Brutus. It makes sense Tumblebrutus is a tumbling kind of jellicle tom. ^.~ Victor: -"Victor" in Latin. Saints and Pope's have had this name. The author who wrote Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Les Miserables was named Victor. Victoria: -"Victory" in Latin. Was the Roman Goddess of Victory, and also the name of England's Queen. T.S Elliot really liked Queen Victoria and is why he named one of the cats after her. ***There are some Swing cats with names too*** Adelina: -"Noble" in a Latin pet form. She was a frankish Princess. This name was also given to one of Willam the Conqueror's daughters. Andromeda: -"To think of a man" in Greek. This was the name of a Greek princess who was saved from by Perseus. It is also the name of a constellation and the name of the Galaxy just beyond our own. Aprilli: -"April" in English. Could also mean To Open, from Latin. It's a simple name with a simple meaning. But a pretty name none-the-less. Augustus: -"Great" derived from Latin. This was the name of Julius Ceaser's adopted son. Incognita: -"With one's identity concealed" from Latin. Well its right there in the text. Though I've never actually seen a production where one of the swings names was Incognita. Wish I have though. Isis: -"The Throne" In Greek. (Originally Eygptian Aset) In Eygptian Myths, Isis was the goddess of the sky. Jonathan: -"God has given" in Hebrew. His name was in the old testament of the bible, and ultimately was killed in the battle with the Phillistines. Lily: -"Lily" derived from Latin. The name is just a simple symbol of purity. Moses: -"Deliver" in Hebrew. He was a hebrew who was raised by the Phaoraoh, later to deliver the hebrew people out of Egypt and also received the ten commandments from god. Olivia: -"Olive" in Latin. She was used by Shakespeare in the play Twelfth Night. It was a comedy play. (I was in it. ^.^ ) Panthera: -"To Hunt" in Greek. (It was super close to Pantheras, which is actually masculine, but this swing is usually played by a girl) Pantheras, according to some Roman Soldier was the name of Jesus' Father. Sybill: -"Phrophetess" In German. (Originally Greek but Sybill is the German form) In greek there were ten Sybil's or phrophets that worshipped Apollo. Tabitha: -"Gazelle" in Aramic. She was also a woman that Saint Peter restored to life. Tintomara: -"Strong; Bitter" in Hungarian. I used Tinto, and Mara. Mara is a form of Mary, but does also mean bitter. There were a few queens with this name, so she's entitled to be bitter. **"Here's a though. Why don't you explain your names too?"*** Vimala: -"Pure Hearted" in Indian. Though Vimala's jellicle personality is anything but pure. "Haha, no way is she pure." "Hey!! How would you know? Stop laughing at me." "ACK! No, get OFF!" "Don't think you're going to have all the fun." "Oh geez..." Demybella: -"Earth; Beautiful" In Greek/Italian. Demy is a pet form of Demeter, so the beginning Demi-means Earth, and Bella means Beautiful. Not sure where the earth would come into play, but Demybella is a very pretty character. ^.^ "Don't you agree Maccy?" "...Shut up." "Oh! Was that a blush?" "Leave me alone, crazy pyshco." "Yay!!! Maccy think's I'm pretty!" "That's not what I said, you little brat. That's totally out of context!" |
