Cats History
The broadway production CATS is based on a book called "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" it is a poetry book with 14 poems, it was written by a very old and well know poet "T. S. Eliot" The music was created from hem poems by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The original production opened on May 11th 1981 at the New London Theatre in the West End.
8 years later and still going strong it celebrated both its birthday and another important milstone this was that it had become arfter 3358 performances, the longest running musical in the history of British Theatre.

It is also one of the most successful musicals the world has ever seen and has played, and they still from that day on play to packed houses in about 250 cities around the world. Around $48 million people or more have seen the show in 20 countries and estimated gross box office world-wide has exceeded $2 billion.

Their  awards include: Laurence Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for the Best Musical and 7 Tony awards in New York.

On Thur June 19th 1997, CATS became the longest running show in the hisory line of broadway. With the 6138th performance CATS passed A chorus Line which staged its last productionin April 1990.
But the show still playing in London, New York, Hamberg and on the US tour.
