The Unconquered Fortress
Two almond eyes peering out through a lattice
Gaze out at the hills where the grape vines are grown
And long for the stag that will scale the highest
To conquer the fortress on mountain of stone
Eyes wait to be conquered, heart longs to be broken
And ramparts to fall, just to know that they can
Mind already given the heart and the mountain
The walks and the ramparts, the fort and the hand
But hills remain empty and silence unbroken
And stag still unseen from the mountain of stone
Eyes turn back to comfortable room on the mountain
Content to wait blind till it comes on its own
