Teach me Love for the City
Teach me love for the city
With its hustle and bustle and noise
And mothers who yell at their children
And screamings of girls and of boys
Teach me to live with the trash trucks
And horns honking half through the night
And ice-cream truck kid-screaming melodies
And crackers on Fourth of July
Help me to pray through the gunshots
And quarrels so loud that we hear
And little girls who spend the night missing
Till theyre found, let me too live in fear
Let my heart break for the city
For those six-score thousand below
And let go of my pastoral paradise
As You, my Lord, also let go
