Stars

To Laina

I remember Laina used to love the star-filled sky at night.
But all that I can see now are the smoggy clouds and moon.
The heavens eyes drowned by the lunar light
But I remember when they twinkled bright
And filled the sky so full, like sparks and embers in a burning room.

Once I laid upon my back and nearly fell into the starry sea
In the mountains, by the lake, on Catalinas evening shore
The stars have always followed me
Except now, when I never see
Those lights; theyre hidden and I dive into that starry ocean now no more.
