In the Shower

I've worn myself with crying in the shower
Hiding my gasps in the spray of hot water
Sighing out the salt that water dilutes
And carries down the pipes and drains
To sullied wells below
Where the tears of the city go
But even the steam of bathroom spray
Is insufficient balm to soothe away
The red-rimmed irises, and the
Face blotched by near-scalding water
Can't hid the puffiness of my weeping eyes
