A score of voices in my mind. Two come clear, step up. They argue. They say the same thing. They both are me. They both try to convince me. They both say differently the same thing: You can't trust people. People hurt. You can't trust you, because you hurt. It's better to be alone. It's better to be alone. Another voice steps out, and takes its place: Yes, it says, turn in, turn in. Turn all it in upon yourself. Destroy yourself, and hate yourself, and love yourself, and save yourself. Run far away from everything, from them, from God, from even me. And drown the voices as they sing . . .
