In an ancient, but somehow far distant time, the Jellicles as we know them boarded a space ship to escape a planet that was going to be destroyed due to a dying sun. The ship was programmed to find them an uninhabited M class planet, with negligible resources, so that the humans that they had heard of, and other aliens would not covet their planet for it's mineral deposits. They were then placed in stasis until the planet had been found. The ship found this planet, but for one small factor, its scans couldn't pick up the human life signs that were there, as they were buried in rock, due to threadfall. It did pick up strange creatures that its databanks called "dragons" but they appeared to be natural life forms. The Jellicles awoke to see the sun rising over the third planet in the Rukbat system. They landed near to a double crater system on the northern continent, but due to the fine black ash sifting down, they stayed in their craft until it had cleared. We join them as they are opening the doors�� Unfortunately for the Jellicles, the planet is already inhabited, and named Pern. Lessa and F'lar, Weyrleader and Weyrwoman of Benden, the double crater, meet the craft, having called in the Masterharper, Robinton, and the other craft masters and Lords and ladies of the planet.
