ACTIVITY - WEB EXPLORATION
Purpose
The Web Exploration activity is designed to give students the opportunity to visualize the characters and terrain that is being explained in the book Deathwatch. Many times students have trouble getting into a book because they are unfamiliar with the setting. The exploration takes the students on a journey through cyberspace (Internet) in order for them to view pictures of the wildlife, plant life, rock formations, etc of the Sonoran Desert. The activity is not only an exploration through the Internet, but also an opportunity for them to become accustomed to finding specific information on the web sites available to them. Accompanying them along their trip through cyper space is a ten question worksheet that focuses their attention during the exploration. After five minutes of familiarizing them with the information provided for them, they then will be free to explore the web pages predetermined by the teacher to find specific information.
Objectives
Students will be able to:
Visualize the characters and the setting of the book.
Become better Internet researchers in locating information.
Answer questions in complete sentences.
Acquire a desert vocabulary and understanding of desert life.
