Instructional Goals

1. Science

Students will investigate and explore the Internet and develop a multimedia project centered around animal and plant life in the Sonoran Desert.  They will learn scientific names for animals and display interesting facts that pertain to their respected topic.

2. Geography

Students will explore the landscape, climate and terrain of the Sonoran Desert.  They will develop competency in different rock formations and through the book will be able to conceptualize what a desert region looks like, and the difficulty it was for Ben to survive.

3. Technology

Students will develop competency in forming Power Point multimedia presentations.  They will concentrate on slide transitions, sounds, and pictures saved from the Internet.  During a class period, students will examine their slides that they have done and critique their effectiveness with transitions and color combinations.

4. Social Studies / Language Arts

Students will improve their social skills in communicating their opinions towards certain issues.  They will have the opportunity to discuss morality issues openly and honestly.  The Oxford Debate, based on the decisions that Ben had made, will provide them with a healthy  environment to express themselves.  Along with the journals, these two means provide the students with a median to develop their communication skills within groups and with their own individual participation.
