Overview of Deathwatch

The story of a young boy's survival in the desert while being chased by a malicious Big-Horned Sheep hunter combines an intriguing plot and a surprising conclusion.  Ben, the young boy has been leading a hunter through the desert in search of Big-Horned sheep, which are very difficult to find.  During this one week adventure in the desert, Mordecai (the hunter) kills a man in the desert explaining to Ben that he mistakened the man for a sheep in the distance.  Ben, not wanting to go along with Mordecai's plans tells Mordecai that they need to tell the sheriff about the man that has "accidentally" been shot.  As a punishment, Mordecai trys and kill Ben by starving him to death.  The book focuses on Ben's survival in the desert, causing him to feast on certain animals, and the number of hiding places he finds to escape Mordecai's pursuit.  Throughout the book the author hints that if Ben would only go along with the plan, he would be a richer man, and also would have food and water to eat.  But Ben refuses to comprimise his morals.  A compelling book that is perfect for open discussion and plot analysis.
