Reflections
As a whole I have learned more than I expected
to get out of the class. I can and now know how to use semicolons; I still
think they are ugly, but will try and use them more often. I did not realize
there was so much to learn about sentences and how they are put together.
I still need to learn a lot till I can say I am an expert, but I am getting
there. I enjoyed the class and it was helpful to have students teach some
of the lessons because it was a break form the everyday style of learning.
I really loved the fact we did our work on the computer because I know
so much more now, and because I need to do work for my other classes on
the Internet, and this class was good practice. All in all the have learned
a lot and how to apply rules of grammar if I need to. There are still some
things I am unsure about and I will have to iron them out for future purposes.
I feel like I know more than I could ever know about linking verbs and
if I am ever on Jeopardy I will not get those questions wrong, at least
I hope not. This class has helped with the work I will be doing in the
future because I plan on teaching English and will be able to answer questions
and give good explanations when needed. I do think I should have taken
the class earlier in the semester because I could have used some of the
things I learned to help me in other classes. I would recommend taking
this class in the summer if it was offered because it is one that needs
focus and time. If you have a full load it is difficult to try and read
everything and then try and retain it. The book was very helpful as well
as the syllabus because they were easy to understand and could help explain
anything that was unclear. I do wish had we done more exercises that included
more than one topic because I could have pulled things together better,
but the exercises we did do were insightful. I really liked the fact the
professor was in his office every time I went for help because it is good
to know someone was there and would take the time to help. I think I would
like to take a refresher class toward the end of my college career just
to checkup and and make sure I know everything I need to know before I
go out and hit the real world.
