I am a full-time student at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I am majoring in English and am working toward a minor in History. I will gradate in the fall of 2002 and plan on continuing my education by returning the following year for a Teaching degree.
I was turned on to English my junior year after taking a Composition class. The freedom I could express through words and the variety of topics liberated the constraints I felt were enforced in other classes. I was able to read the fictional and non-fictional experiences conveyed through words by a diverse group of authors and knew the provocative issues and enlightening perspectives could benefit my creativity and writing ability.
My father is retired Navy and growing up all over the world has allowed for a wide range of personal material to be presented. The places I have lived, people I have met, and the circumstances I have witnessed and/or was involved in has contributed to everything I have composed.
I plan on teaching, which will allow me to share what I have learned with my students as well as gain new insight from the contact and interaction with them.
