Damage types and Sizes
Starcraft has made a damage system so that some units are better at destroying certain units compared to others. There are 3 types of damages. Normal, Concussive and Explosive. These are affected by the unit sizes as well. Small, Medium and Large. Depending on damage type and the target size will affect damage done by a unit. Example: A firebat has 16 base damage. You would think that it is superior to a marine which has a base damage of 6. However when attacking a goliath a firebat can only sqeeze a maxium of 4 damage while the marine can still deal 6. This is because of damage types and unit sizes. All buildings are considered large.

Normal deals 100% damage to any size type making it the better damage type. However most of the units using this damage type do not deal a great deal of damage.

Concussive deals 100% to Small units while dealing 50% to medium and 25% to Large units. It is given to the Firebat and Ghost who can only deal miniscule amount of damage to anything but Small units. Making it ineffective against buildings and most air units.

Explosive deals 50% to Small units 75% to Medium and 100% to large units. This damage type allows it to deal maxium damage against buildings and large units. Commonly given to Anti-Air units since many air units are large. However this damage is weak against small units like zerglings, marines, zealots and mutalisks.
