This vehicle is special to me in a more personal way. My Grandfather drove one (or a model similar to the M3A3) during WWII. He was a member of the the 2nd Armored Division and survived at least two near misses. The first, was a sniper bullet that ricocheted off of a camera he carried in his shirt pocket. The second, was being blown out of his halftrack by a friendly bomb. The pilot dropped it on the wrong group of soldiers due to poor radio communications. My Grandfather survived the war and lived until the late 1970's. |
