~ Chapter Thirty-Four ~
Jeff woke up Wednesday morning, and Ryann was still fast asleep. He got up without waking his fiance, and went downstairs to get a drink. John was downstairs also, and he was the only other one up. He was drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.
Hey Jeff, whats up? John asked.
Nothing, I just need some coffee. What are you up so early for?
I have never been able to sleep real well in this house. Is my sister still asleep?
Yeah, she was really tired last night. She fell asleep right after we went upstairs. So when are you and Carey headed back to California? Jeff inquired.
Were leaving Friday afternoon, and driving to Pennsylvania. Her family is there, so well stay a couple of days, and then fly back west. So how long are you and Ryann on vacation for?
I know that I am on vacation for three weeks, and Ryann was supposed to be as well, but I dont know how it is going to work now. She obviously cant wrestle because shes pregnant. But they may have her do other things, Im not sure.
Thats cool. So whenever youre out in Los Angeles, you can always stay at our place.
Thanks, I am sure Ryann will love that.
You are going to be my brother-in-law soon. And thanks for mentioning to me that you were going to propose, not that you needed my permission or approval.
I know that your opinion means a lot to her John.
Can I ask you something Jeff? John asked.
   Sure.
Did you decide to marry my sister because she was pregnant?
No. Jeff said matter-of-factly. I bought the ring in Boston before I knew. I knew I wanted to marry Ryann, and I wanted my proposal to be perfect for her. But then she told me she was pregnant, and she had to tell your parents, and everything just got crazy.
I know Ryann too well.  You could have been standing in the middle of the sewer in a pile of shit, and she would have thought it was perfect. They both started to laugh. Seriously though, she thinks the world of you Jeff.
John! Carey said as she came down the stairs. Your sister would kill you if she heard you telling Jeff things like that.
Good morning Carey. Jeff said.
Good morning Jeff. Carey replied. Is Ryann still sleeping?
Like a baby. Jeff responded.
So is anybody hungry? Carey asked.
Im starving. John replied.
Carey walked over to the refrigerator, took some food out, and started cooking breakfast. Soon after, Jessica entered the kitchen. The last one to remain sleeping besides their parents was Ryann. Jessica decided to wake her up so she ran upstairs. A few minutes later, Ryann came down with her sister.
She wasnt sleeping, she was in the bathroom. Jessica said as she jumped off the last stair onto the kitchen floor.
   Morning sickness? Jeff inquired.
Yeah. But Im fine now. What are you cooking Carey? Ryann asked.
French toast, would you like some?
I would love some. Ryann said as she sat down at the table.
Carey brought a plate with a huge stack of French toast over to the table, and everyone started eating. After they finished, they took turns in the shower, and by eight thirty, everyone was dressed and ready for the day. Jessica was getting ready to leave for school, and asked, Can someone take me to school? Dad was going to because my car is in the shop, but hes not up.
Jeff and I will take you Jess, I wanted to stop over there today and see Lindsay anyway. Ryann said.
Lindsay works at the school? John asked.
Yeah, shes been the secretary for two years John. Where have you been? Ryann inquired.
Not around here, obviously. John said.
Anyway, I promised her that I would stop in and say hello the next time I was in town. So Jeff and I will bring you to school. Ryann said.
Cool, so are you ready to go? Jessica asked.
Sure. Jeff said. He grabbed his keys, and he, Ryann and Jessica climbed into his corvette and drove to the high school. Jeff parked the car, and they all got out. Jeff grabbed Ryanns hand and they walked into the school together. Jessica had to go sign in at the office, so the three of them walked together. Lindsay was at the desk, looking completely frustrated when Ryann said, Everything will be ok; youll find whatever it is that youre looking for eventually.
Lindsay looked up from her desk, and just about screamed. Ryann, youre home! She jumped up and gave Ryann a hug. Jessica said, I dont want to interrupt, but I need to get to class. Can I have the sign in book?
Ill sign you in later Jessica, just go ahead. Lindsay said. So whats going on with you girl? How is the WWE thing going?
Great. Lindsay, Id like you to meet Jeff.
Lindsay finally noticed Jeff standing behind Ryann and said, Jeff Hardy, nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too. Jeff said.
So is Chris jealous that you brought Jeff up here with you? Lindsay asked Ryann.
Hes just jealous of Jeff altogether. Hes going to be livid when he finds out that we are engaged and having a baby.
Youre engaged? And youre pregnant? Lindsay inquired. Thats great Ry Lindsay hugged her friend again. Congratulations.
Thanks. So anyway, I just wanted to say hello, because Jeff and I are heading back to North Carolina tomorrow.
So soon?
Yeah, Ive taken about all I can of my mother, and I dont want to be around when Chris finds out about Jeff and me.
I told her not to worry about him Jeff said.
But we all know how psycho Chris can be. Lindsay said. I cant believe you stayed with him as long as you did Ryann. I mean, he put you through so much. Im just glad to see you with someone else.
I am glad to be with someone else. Chris still scares me though. But anyway, weve got to get going, but I promise Ill call you soon, ok. Ryann told her friend.
   Youd better.
The two girls hugged each other, and Jeff and Ryann headed toward the door. Jeff stopped off at the bathroom, and Ryann told him shed meet him outside at the car. As soon as she walked out the front door, she saw Chris, leaning against Jeffs Corvette. Ryann was going to turn around and go back inside, but Chris ran up to her.
I hear congratulations are in order. Chris said. Ryann slid her left hand into her pocket to hide her engagement ring.
What are you talking about? Ryann asked.
You and your boyfriend are having a baby and getting married. Am I right?
Chris, why cant you let me go?
I love you Ryann. I want us to be together.
But I am with Jeff now. We were over a long time ago.
When did you stop loving me Ryann?
When you started hitting me Chris. Ryann said, just as Jeff walked out the door.
Look, theres the proud father now. Chris said.
Jeff bit his tongue, and took Ryanns hand. Come on Ryann. H said, and headed to the car. Chris followed them over. Jeff opened the door for Ryann, and she sat down and he shut the door behind her. He turned to Chris and said, I dont have a problem except for the fact that you keep harassing my fiance. If it doesnt stop immediately, Ill
Chris cut Jeff off. Youll what? You stole her from me, and I dont get a fair opportunity to win her back?
I didnt steal Ryann from you. She approached me the night of the Tough Enough Party. It doesnt matter anyway, shes asked you repeatedly to leave her alone, so take the hint and do so!
Jeff walked around the car and got in on the drivers side. Chris was still running his mouth as Jeff pulled out of the school. He looked over at Ryann and she was crying.
What is the matter babe?
I am so sick of it. I am never going to be able to get away from him. Ryann blurted out.
Would you like to leave today? Jeff asked. Its still early and we could make it home tonight.
I just want to get as far away from here as possible. Ryann said, trying to fight back her tears.

Jeff drove back to Ryanns house, and the two of them packed up their things. As they were loading up the car, John came outside, and said, Getting ready for the long drive tomorrow?
No, Jeff said. Were going to leave in a few minutes.
Why? I thought you werent leaving until tomorrow? John inquired.
I cant take it anymore John. Ryann blurted out. Chris will not leave me alone, and I dont need the stress right now. So were going home today.
Jeff went back into the house to grab the rest of their things. Ryann stayed outside with her brother.
Ry, was Chris at the school?
Yes, and he knows everything. I cant stay here, and I cant keep looking over my shoulder waiting for something to happen. And I cant risk something happening to Jeff.
Chris isnt going to hurt Jeff.
John, Chris once told me that he couldnt live without me, and hed rid the world of whatever or whoever stood in his way.
Does Jeff know this?
No, and I dont want to bother him with it either. Once we leave, everything will go back to normal, and we wont be thinking about Chris.
Jeff came back outside with the rest of their things, and packed them in the car.
Thats everything Ryann. Jeff said.
So just tell mom and dad that I am sorry that we couldnt stay, and that Ill give them a call when we get home. Ryann told her brother, and gave him a hug.
I will Ryann. Take care of yourself, ok. John said.
   I will.
Jeff walked over to John, and the two of them shook hands. Take care of my little sister Jeff. I know that she really needs you right now.
I will John, thanks.

Jeff and Ryann got into the corvette, and pulled out of the driveway. As they headed down the road, they bypassed Chris in his truck. Chris tried to turn around and follow them, but couldnt catch up. He decided to drive by her house, so he drove back into town and by the Kensington residence.
