| Matt drove his car down Jeff's driveway, and parked where he always does. He got out and walked directly over to the studio. He knocked on the door, and then opened it up and walked in. "Hey Jeff, you still in here?" "Yes, we're back here." Jeff replied. Matt walked to the back of the trailer where he saw Jeff sitting at his keyboard and an unfamiliar woman sitting next to him. "Hey Jeff." Jeff and Lainey turned around and Jeff said, "Hey Matt, what's going on?" "Not much. What are you two doing?" "I was just showing Lainey how I record music, and then put the lyrics with it." "By the way" Lainey said. "I am Lainey." She put her hand out for Matt to shake. "I am Matt, Jeff's brother." Matt shook Lainey's hand. "It's nice to meet you." "It's nice to meet you too." "Jeff, Danny called my house about a half an hour ago, and said he'd been trying to call you for over an hour." "Did he tell you what he wanted?" "He said that he had an estimate for the corvette, and the Liberty. He wanted to let you know before he started the work." "Okay, I'll give him a call later. So what's up?" "Nothing." Matt replied. "Where's Amy?" "Jeff, I told you. We aren't together anymore." "That's right" Jeff said. "So how do you two know each other?" "Lainey owns the Liberty Matt." "Oh and she came over to visit?" "Actually," Lainey said. "I went for a walk and I guess I passed out on the side of the road and your brother found me and brought me here. Then we started talking and his dog mauled me, and somehow, we ended up out here." "That's my brother" Matt stated. "Always saving the damsel in distress." "Ha, Ha." Jeff said. "So, where's Lizzie?" "She's working, where she always is if she's not with one of her friends." Jeff said as he rolled his eyes. Lainey was curious as to whom Lizzie was, but wasn't going to ask. Instead, she decided that she needed to go home, so she stood up and said, "Well, I'd better get going. If Cassidy calls and I am not home, she is going to flip out on me." "Alright." Jeff said. "Let me give you a ride." "It's okay, I can walk. It's not that far." "And pass out again, no. I insist, since it is my fault you are walking in the first place." "Okay." Jeff, Matt, and Lainey all walked out of the studio and over to the driveway. Jeff unlocked the passenger side of his truck for Lainey, and then walked over to the driver's side and unlocked his door. "It was nice to meet you Matt." Lainey said as she was getting into the truck. "It was nice to meet you too. I'm sure we will see each other again really soon." "Maybe" Lainey shut the door, and Jeff shut his as well. "Matt, I'll be back in a bit if you want to come back over." "Sure Jeff, I'll catch ya later." Jeff started the truck and backed up to turn around. Matt got into his car and started to leave. Jeff and Lainey were right behind him. When Jeff got to the end of the driveway, he said, "Which way?" "Left." Lainey replied. Jeff turned left and followed his brother down the road. When Matt turned into his driveway, Lainey said, "Is that where he lives?" "Yes it is. It's a nice house, huh?" "It was noisy when it was being built. He lives so close, why does he drive to your place?" "He's lazy." Jeff said as he laughed a little. "How do you know how noisy it was?" "Well, I live in the next house." "You live next door to my brother?" "Apparently so, because the next house is mine and my sister's." "That is so strange" Jeff said in amazement. "Why is that?" "Because we live so close to each other, yet have never met until now that is. How long have you lived in Cameron?" "Almost two years." "Where did you live before that?" "Cassidy and I are from Charlotte." "If you don't mind my asking" Jeff said as he pulled into Lainey's driveway. "What brought you to Cameron?" "Cassidy got offered this really great job as the head chef at Beefeater's in Southern Pines, so I came out here with her to check the area out. We both really liked it, so she took the job and wanted me to move with her. I didn't have a spectacular job back in Charlotte, so I decided to come." Jeff parked the car in the driveway and shut it off. "So why Cameron though. Southern Pines is twenty minutes away." "We didn't plan on Cameron. When we were out here, we bought some newspapers and looked for a place. This house is the one we liked the best. But I really enjoy not being in the city anymore." "I love Cameron. It's so quiet and peaceful." "I know. I don't think I'd ever live in the city again. But anyway, I should get inside in case my sister calls. It was nice seeing you again Jeff." "The pleasure was all mine. So Lainey, you still have my number. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call me. I'm going to call the body shop and find out when our cars will be ready. If you give me your number, I'll call you and let you know." "Okay, do you have a pen?" "I think so." Jeff leaned over and started rummaging through the glove compartment of the truck, and finally found a pen. He grabbed a napkin out also, and handed it to Lainey. She wrote her name and cellular phone number down, and handed it to Jeff. "I'll give you a call as soon as I get off the phone with Danny." Jeff told her. "Alright, that would be cool." Lainey said. "I'll talk to you later." Lainey climbed out of Jeff's truck and went inside. She flopped onto the couch and let out a huge sigh. There was something about Jeff she liked, but she couldn't put her finger on it. He intrigued her, and he was so not the type of guy she'd ever dated. He had multi-colored hair, green eyes, and was a wrestler. He built aluminum foil statues and his lawn was all huge mounds of dirt. Lainey's type of man had a white-collar job, was neat and was smart and ambitious. Not that she knew whether or not Jeff was smart or ambitious, she had no idea. All she knew was that she wanted to know more about him. So she went into her bedroom and turned on her computer. Lainey knew that there must be a website for the WWE, so she searched and found it. She was reading about what was happening, and she came across Jeff's bio. She read about Jeff and his brother Matt. How the two of them were one of the most famous tag teams in WWE history, and how they had recently split up to work on their singles careers. Jeff was working on Raw and Matt was on Smackdown. She also looked at the photos and some of the videos. She was amazed that two people so famous were living right down the road from her, and she had never met nor heard of them before the day before. Just then, her cell phone rang. "Hello?" "Are you on the internet?" "Yes Cassidy, I am. What's up?" "I was calling to see how you were doing?" "I am fine. You are never going to believe this." "Believe what?" "You know that guy I got into the accident with?" "Yes." "He and his brother are wrestlers for the WWE." "What?" "You know, the show that dad always watched when we were kids." "The show with that Hulk Hogan guy? I thought that was called the WWF." "Yes, well I guess they changed the name. Anyway, Jeff and his brother Matt work for them." "And how did you find that out?" "Jeff told me." "When did you talk to him?" "I went for a walk today after you left, and ran into him. He brought me over to his house and was showing me around and we started talking." "Lainey, when are you going to learn?" "Learn what?" "He was probably lying to you to try to impress you or something." "Well, I am looking at his picture and profile on the website right now." "Are you serious?" "Completely, and check this out. His brother Matt was the one building the house next to us all last year, and Jeff lives next door to him. We have famous neighbors." "Well Lainey, they can't be that famous if we'd never heard of them before." "We probably never heard of them because we don't watch wrestling. But there is a show on tomorrow called Smackdown and I want to watch it." "Fine, whatever. So you are okay?" "Yes, I am fine." "Okay, I should be home in a half an hour." "Early night?" "Yes, Dana is working the dinner shift so I can have the night off." "Okay, I'll see you when you get here." "Later sis." "See ya Cass." Lainey hung up and started searching the internet for more information about Jeff. She figured that since he was so famous she'd be able to find out more about him. She stumbled across a website that had another bio about him, so she started reading it. She read all of it until she got to the status part. She read, Status: Taken by live-in girlfriend, Lizzie. That's whom Matt was asking about, Jeff's girlfriend. Lainey was now bummed out. Here she'd thought she had met this great guy, and he was taken. "Figures" she thought to herself. Lainey closed the page and went out to the kitchen to fix herself something to eat. She was in the middle of making a sandwich when her phone rang again. "Hello?" Lainey said with irritation in her voice. "Lainey?" "Yeah, who is this?" "It's Jeff." "Oh." "I just got off the phone with Danny, and he said that your car should be fixed by tomorrow afternoon. If you want, I can take you down there to pick it up." "That won't be necessary." Lainey replied. "My sister can bring me down; she has the day off tomorrow." Not that it was the truth; she just didn't want to be around Jeff. She was afraid she'd like him more than she should. "Well, okay. So I was wondering if you'd want to take some photos of my aluminummies sometime. I'd pay you." "Well, I am supposed to work the rest of this week until Sunday. My next day off after that is Tuesday." "Okay, Sunday won't work because I will be out of town. But I come home Tuesday morning. Can you do it on Tuesday?" Lainey wanted to say no to avoid him, but she could really use the extra cash. "Okay, Tuesday at what time?" "I usually get home around eleven in the morning. Can you come over then?" "Sure. Eleven o'clock, Tuesday morning." Lainey said as she wrote it on her calendar. "I'll see you then." "I'm looking forward to it." Jeff replied. Lainey hung up the phone and growled at herself. She finished making her sandwich and poured a glass of water. She plopped down in front of the television and turned it on. She was channel surfing, and couldn't find anything to watch. She was mad at the world for bringing this guy into her life and then ripping him out of it almost immediately after. Before she had time to have another angry thought, Cassidy walked in the front door. "Hello Lainey. Could you help me?" Cassidy had her arms full of grocery bags, so Lainey got up to help her sister. She was going to take some bags from her, but Cassidy said, "I've got these. Can you get the rest out of the car?" "Sure Cass." Lainey replied. Lainey walked out the front door, grabbed the rest of the groceries from Cassidy's Passport and carried them inside. She set them on the counter with the others, and then started to help her sister put them away. Cassidy could sense that something was bothering her sister. The two of them always had that sixth sense about the other one. "Do you want to talk about it Lainey?" "Talk about what?" Lainey replied as she was putting food in the cupboard. "Whatever it is that is bothering you." "Nothing is bothering me." "Lainey" Cassidy said sternly. "You know that I always know when something is bothering you. If you don't want to talk about it, that is fine. But please don't lie to me about it." "Fine, I don't want to talk about it." Lainey replied. The sisters were silent for another couple of minutes as they finished putting the groceries away. Lainey was putting the milk in the refrigerator when she turned to Cassidy and said, "Why can't I ever meet a man who is perfect for me." "What?" Cassidy asked. "Every time I meet a guy who I could possibly be interested in, he turns out to have a girlfriend, or he's gay. Why is that?" "I don't know Lain maybe you're trying to hard." "You have a perfect boyfriend though, why can't I find a man?" "Nathan is far from perfect. He annoys the hell out of me. I don't even know why I am still with him, now that you mention it." "You and Nathan have been together for over a year, and you want to break up with him?" "There's nothing there anymore. He's an ass to me. If I do something he doesn't like, he blows the whole thing completely out of proportion and I can't stand it anymore." "How long have you been feeling like this Cass?" "Long enough. It doesn't matter, we were talking about you. Why all of a sudden do you have this issue about men?" "Just because" "Lainey Wilson, PLEASE tell me you don't have the hots for that guy you got into an accident with." "Why would you think that?" Lainey asked. "He's the only guy you've had contact with today. And now all of a sudden all men suck?" "So what if I do like Jeff. It's not like he likes me, he has a girlfriend." "I know that you're my twin, but I don't think I will ever understand how your mind works." "What?" "Lainey, this guy caused you to crash your car and have a concussion and spend part of the night in the hospital. And now you like him?" "It's not like he pulled out in front of me on purpose." "He's a freak! Did you get a good look at him? Or did you bump your head harder than I thought." "Yes I got a good look at him. I spent about three hours with him today. I don't know Cassidy; I know that he's not my type. I just can't seem to get him out of my head." Cassidy rolled her eyes. "You're nuts Lainey, absolutely nuts." |
