Archives 17 June 2003 An email from the fan fiction archives at TheForce.net arrived on 17 June. It confirms acceptance of the short story I spoke of in the previous entry. I can't say when the story will appear in the archives. Also, I have included a new diary entry. 24 May 2003 The format of the journal area has changed. Also, I am now calling the journal a diary. I'll probably post a new entry soon. 12 May 2003 New journal entry. 10 May 2003 The short story featuring Padme has undergone reconstruction of its plot. Today, I requested readings from the volunteers that I declared for the first submission of the story. I've been working on the silly thing since November, so you can imagine my disappointment at learning that the plot and grammar problems garnered it a rejection. I'll submit again as soon as possible. Another journal entry should appear soon. It's written and being typed presently. It runs about one thousand words, and I'm not in a mood to transcribe anything right now so it could take a few days. 2 Dec 2002 I've begun a new sequel for Resurgence. TFN rejected my previous sequel, twice, so I discarded it and proceeded to other projects. Bitter Retrieval has done reasonably well. My statistics report 939 hits so far, though it's not eliciting many comments. I've begun to submit work to non-paying webzines. Go to BewilderingStories.com and look for The Hike in issue #20, and look for The Reclamation in issue #21. Also I submitted to them Friend and The Snoop. They're debating whether to publish two stories in one issue. To WildViolet.net I sent The Reclamation. They receive a high volume of submissions so I'll just have to wait and see. To FutureShocks.com, months ago, I sent Friend. Bear in mind, these aren't fan fiction pieces, just SF. BewilderingStories.com is pretty neat since they will accept unfinished stories of almost any length and they allow simultaneous submissions. If directories of various kinds of webzines interest you then see Ralan.com. My reading lately has included the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I'm deep into the third book, The Return of the King, as I write this, just beyond the point at which the fate of the Ring has come to pass. I look forward to viewing the movies. This year I have read only fifteen books so far, less than half of the forty I read last year. I may post my reading list for 2001 and 2002 in the Whatever section of this website. 6 Nov 2002 It turns out that FernWithy created the art for Bitter Retrieval at TFN. She gave me permission to post it here. 29 Oct 2002 Redesigned the site again. The new look closely emulates the Techie template in the Yahoo! PageBuilder system. I added a few features not included on the template. Still awating word from TFN as to when they will archive my story. I'll post it here when they do. 17 Oct 2002 This site now includes a guestbook. If you find a lot of space at the bottom of this page and know how I can eliminate it, then feel free to leave instructions in the guestbook or email me. I would much appreciate it. 04 Oct 2002 TFN emailed an acceptance of my story "Bitter Retrieval" today. Of course it takes time for a story to appear on the site. When it does, I'll post it here. 25 Sep 2002 Submitted a story yesterday. It's called "Bitter Retrieval". It's not what I'm typically inclined to write. I'll post a note about it in the comments area beneath it if TFN archives it. As I write this, one reviewer is examining the story. 19 Aug 2002 Redesigned website again. I'll place some content on the whatever page when something interesting enough comes along. 6 Aug 2002 You can now read A Matter of Territory at the TFN fiction archives. I posted a comment (the first) today, stating that the story is not a sequel to Resurgence. 4 Aug 2002 The archives just sent word that they have accepted A Matter of Territory. The cover art I cooked up is in the wrong format and I just emailed the editors to negotiate. 29 July 2002 This page features a new link. You'll find it beneath the image in the left column. The new page makes this a two-page website, and it features 85 links to various sites dedicated to Star Wars. 22 July 2002 I'm on the beta-reader's email mailing list at TFN now. I won't beta-read anything over five pages unless you talk me into it, but send them if you've got them. 19 July 2002 Submitted "A Matter of Territory" to TFN yesterday. Somebody sent me a poem I liked titled, "The Man Behind the Mask". I beta-read it and returned comments, and by the next day TFN had sent a request for beta-reading confirmation. I hope they archive it. Still thinking of what to do about "Strike!", the sequel to "Resurgence". I'm now leaning toward writing a brand new story to replace it, perhaps keeping the character Zala Tarker and harvesting a few tidbits I like from the story. I'll probably post it here with my amateur cover art sometime. I've collected 23 URLs of Star Wars fan sites. These are URLs that are registered domain names like banthapoodoo.net, unlike the URLs of free pages on which amateur designers strew the clutter of their Star Wars obsessions like this page. I'd post them here, but I don't want a lot of links leading visitors away from the page. Drop me a line (yellow link upper left of the page) and I'll email them to you. 17 June 2002 Submitted "A Matter of Territory" to TFN yesterday. I'm not planning to scrap it anytime soon, but it might take longer than usual this time to rewrite. Meanwhile, "A Matter of Territory" undergoes the beta reading process. 9 July 2002 Sent "A Matter of Territory" for beta reading today. Still no word from TFN about "Strike!", except that a reviewer is currently examining it. To date, "Resurgence" has received over 1800 hits, and I thank those for their interest. I just wish this site attracted so much traffic. 2 July 2002 Changed the title of "Rebel Base". I'll submit this to TFN eventually. I'm hoping they'll archive it as "A Matter of Territory". 27 June 2002 Submitted the rewrite of Strike! today. Also submitted some cover art I cooked up for it. If you haven't noticed, I re-designed the homepage. Thanks for visiting. Despite its listing in Google (Yahoo! can find it as well), the site, according to Geocities' site statistics, gets very little traffic. 19 June 2002 The Fan Fiction Archive at TheForce.net rejected Strike!, the sequel to Resurgence. I got the notification yesterday. They didn't say specifically, but I think it was the pacing, which in my work tends to be too fast. I'll start re-working it right away. I know some people were waiting for a sequel, and the silly thing is 22 pages long, so I'm not giving up on it easily. |
