135 Hours - Fabuglas Bahama Restoration
A completed wheel...the result of 8 hours of rust removal, cleaning, 2 coats of primer, and 3 final coats of metallic silver.  These wheels are awesome!!! In this picture, one complete seat remains.  The base of the other is "opened up" on the floor.  I needed the measurements so I can design a new seat base on IntelliCAD before building them.
I used the same basic design of the original seat bases.  However, these bases will be much stronger due to the added reinforcement and tight fitting parts.  Angles were found using IntelliCAD and all pieces were carefully cut with precision woodworking machines.  All pieces fit together without any gaps.  The parts are glued and screwed in their respective positions.  The result is an extremely strong, lightweight structure, as shown in the pictures below.  With a background in furniture building, this was a fun part of the project because I didn't have to even think about excess glue spots...nobody will ever see them!!!    :-)
Here is a rear end view of the passenger seat base. The arc cut into the lower left conforms to the coutours of the hull. This is the right side of the same seat base.
