Late 90's?- My 91' drove like a Cadillac! This is a trail off of highway 49 north of Truckee at, highway 80 near the Sierra Buttes. It starts right at the highway, goes about 30-40 feet to cross the Yuba River. Then the trail climbs from about 6000 feet to about 7100 feet. It's a real steep trail with sharp turns, (too tight for p/u's), loose dirt and random small head size rocks. My 91 almost made it to the top, with bald 33's and open diffs.
Made it to the northside, (backside), many a time on my 96 XR600 from 99-01, but if you knew the mountain that's not saying much.

Update September 2002- My cousin Billy, (on a loaner 96' XR600R), and I, (on my 99' WR400F), made it to the same freakin spot the 91 made it too. Just too steep, and again loose soft dirt and head size boulders. The helmet cam took good footage of the attempt!

Update October 2003- Finally made it to the top of Deadmans Peak in the 4runner, (or at least the top of the hill/trail) with semi fresh 33 MTA's, and a Detroit locker in the rear, but most importantly... AIRING DOWN. Can't say enough about that. We were about level with Deadmans Lake, but couldn't go any farther east to the actual lake. Maybe try to blaze a new trail sometime in the future.
Pics of each attempt, and video coming soon!
