Notes | The Galaxia-class starship
was designed as an improvement over the Galaxy-class starship. The Galaxia-class
was intended to be smaller and more efficient, yet retain the various
capabilities of the Galaxy-class. The size of the starship was reduced by
removing the interconnecting dorsal shortening the stardrive section.
However, the class name suggested similarity to the Galaxy-class, as the
other components and major systems were identical. Other modifications
included the repositioning of the warp nacelles to generate a more efficient
subspace field, relocating the main torpedo tubes to the sides of the main
deflector, and the replacement of the two shuttlebays in the Galaxy's dorsal
with a single shuttlebay at the aft of the stardrive section. However, the Galaxia-class starship project was later terminated in favor of the Sovereign-class starships. Only six Galaxia-class vessels were constructed at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. The top and side view images were modified from Galaxy-class images from Bernd Schneider's Ex Astris Scientia. |
