Choke for a 10VDC 300A Supply
Multi-output low capacitance 5 KV isolation transformer. Nobody would bid this job. So I did one and handed out winding charts. Then we were able to get a batch of 21 for ~$135 ea.
100 KV-isolation trigger-pulse transformer
12 KV, 40 A, 4 microsecond pw, 1 KHZ prf
Rewind: Sears 1/2 hp grinder motor. I did the red winding on the fly, in Ninilchik Alaska.
There is a darkest hour for each job. This one came after I'd counted the number of turns I had to replace: only to notice my replacement windings would be tying into six points on an existing winding. Feeling defeated, Mike, the owner, asked me if I wanted the grinder. I started checking continuity and got a handle on what to do. Failure is the first step to any success. Success, in the face of a worthy and formidable challenge, should trigger elation and disbelief. We both roared with laughter when this rewind-job worked out okay. Mike's handshake was payment aplenty.

The original winding was aluminum. Fortunately, Wendel Boucher showed me how to solder aluminum. I did it six times here. He calls it swaging. Key to the procedure are burs on the soldering iron tip. Under a sea of flux, you shave away the surface oxide. Low and behold, you will see wetting of aluminum with Kester SN 63 tin/lead solder. The joints looked cold but had good physical integrity.
These jobs were all done at customer's facilities, with whatever was laying around (but I did use select specialty-items from my personal stockroom).

What do you do when you've provided 10 VAC, but now need 10 VDC?
How would you supply eight decks with 15 VDC when they all ride on varying levels of up to 3 KV of RF?
What would you do to isolate a trigger-pulse-source for driving the floating trigger-pin of a 55 KV triggered vacuum gap?
Sometimes people can't move forward for lack of an answer from the magnetic kingdom. I enjoy doing repair, design, fabrication, and test. Welcome to my world. Come, let me show you what I've done . . . .
