My Oedipus Essay

Trapping Oedipus in the Plot

Oedipus finds himself being led by fate and into a world the Gods and Goddess's have created

for him. Murdering Laius was his fate and there was nothing he could have done about it. He

found himself trapped in a world that was created for him. The events that follow the murder

show his struggle to fight against fate and try not to believe what is told to him. Oedipus

learns of his childhood throughout the book and cannot handle the truth. He is corned into a

world he cannot handle and is blinded for ever. Fate has brought him this grief.

Oedipus lies constantly during the play. "Whose murder? Who is the man whose death Apollo

lays to our charge?" (7). He is destined to be trapped and hurt severely. The Gods and

Goddess's are upset with him and his actions. He has not only brought the fate upon himself

but he has annoyed the Gods. In his heart his knows he has killed Liaus and still does not

admit to anything. He digs him self deeper and deeper into a pit he cannot climb out of. His

three offers do not help his cause, and is once again being trapped by fate.

Oedipus's activates with his mother are not legal and are not in anyway right. He brings the

entrapment upon himself at times in the book. Oedipus stabs himself in the eyes killing his

sight forever. Oedipus has no way of getting his site back and no way of ever see the his

children again. He is summoned in to a blackened world where he cannot

see. The Gods and Goddess's have set him up and there is no way he can turn back or change

the course of his life. They have planned his life and his future.

In conclusion Oedipus is trapped by the events of the plot because of the God's and

Goddess's deciding his fate and his course in life. They have put this burden on him, which

has caused him to stab away at his eyes and left him to suffer. "I cannot say you made the

right decision. You would have been better dead then blind" (98). He has no choice but to

live his life out and do the best he can. He should have never lied and should have admitted

to the murder and saved himself the pain and suffering of being stabbed in the eyes by his

own two hands. He could have lived in exile rather, and not have been told about his

childhood. But fate took its course and caused his to engage him in a murder of a King and

lie about everything.

Reflection on Ceaser

Power can be taken a long way. The more people gain it, the more greedy they get. They take

advantage of it and use it for there own benefit even if it hurts others. In the diplomacy

game everyone was give some power. Some chose to use it wisely and some did not. The game

was every man or woman for him or herself. There were alliance's made but none of that

matter as the game ended. Everyone took their power and used against anyone in their way.

The greediness of the game was at a high level throughout the game trying to gain as much

power as possible. The one with the most power was left standing.

Politics were a big part of the diplomacy. Making alliances and helping others out made the

game very interesting. People would support each other throughout the game but then turn

against them at the last second. People would backstab each other and only look out for

themselves. They became so greedy that they would forget about any alliances made. The

politics of this game are based the same way they are in real life. People pretend to watch

out for each other but know deep down they are lying. They look for the quickest and easiest

way to gain power and strength.

This game was not only about power and politics. It also included government. Each country

was its only government and had its own way of

thinking. They had a goal set in there mind from the beginning of the game and they would

trying and pursue it in anyway they could. I had struggled through the first moves of the

game and got frustrated because of people moving into the places I was headed for. There

were many conflicts between each government. As the game progressed things got easier. At

the end of the game every government turned against each other and I made the mistake of

keeping all pieces in place on the last turn. I lost many supply centers and most countries

gained from my loss.

My Tragic Hero Essay

Who is the Tragic Hero?

The tragic hero in the play Julius Caesar is Julius Caesar. The play is named after Julius

Caesar thus Caesar is the tragic hero. Caesar has flaws that lead to his death. Caesar is of

very high rank. He is very ambitious, his eagerness to gain power brings him down. When he

dies half way through the play his ghost pervades throughout the rest of the play. His ghost

plays an important role in what happens to the rest of the conspirators. He believes

everyone is lower then him and he is at the peak of power.

When Caesar comes back as a ghost to warn Brutus of his death, he is being remember by

Shakespeare. Shakespeare does this to show that Caesar is still part of the play and he is

included throughout the play even after his death. "The ghost of Caesar hath appeared to me

two several times by night" (Act 4, Sc iii, 283, 442) Caesar is haunting Brutus to show him

he still has the power that he was so ambitious to get. "To tell thee thou shall see me at

Philippi" (Act 4, Sc iii, 285, 442.) Caesar again warns Brutus that he will be back at his

death. Caesar can control the fate of Brutus. He is the real hero despite his flaws.

This play is named after Caesar. Thus Caesar is the tragic hero. Shakespeare wanted Caesar

to be remembered for his acts, his fight for power, and his downfall to death. He was not a

perfect man and had flaws to him but Shakespeare felt in the end Caesar came out on top,

just as he had lived his whole life. Caesar has such a strong influence on the play that

Shakespeare

King 2.

could not cut him out of the play and have no mention of him after his death. This play is

based around Caesar because he is the tragic hero of the play. Every aspect of the play

revolves around Caesars actions.

Caesar was always ambitious. He was always looking for ways to earn more power, even if it

meant hurting others. He was not bothered by it at all. "Et tu Brute! Then fall Caesar" (Act

3, Sc I, 78, 414) Caesar considers himself already dead before Brutus has even stabbed him.

Caesar feels it is his time to die and he realizes he will go down as a good man. Despite

his flaws the people still honor him. After Antony's speech to the people they are in favor

or Caesar. They worship him even though he is long gone. He is their hero and the mob is

angered by the way Caesar is killed.

Caesar is the tragic hero of the play Julius Caesar. Brutus becomes the center of attention

after Caesars death but only because Caesar come back as a ghost and tells Brutus his death

is near. Brutus is very impractical but he does not show the characteristics of a hero that

Caesar does. The mob never liked Brutus and saw him as a evil man who killed there hero. He

killed Caesar for his own wealth and power. He was in fear oh his power and had to many

flaws. In the end of the play Caesar's will is read and money is given to all the people of

the town. This scene shows how Caesar really was a good man at heart but had his problems

with ambition and gaining power.
