Raisin in the Sun

 

This book took place in Chicago in the 1950's. It is about a family living in Chicago. The husband of the family has very big dreams and wants to go far in life. His wife does not agree with him and thinks his dreams will never come true.

The theme of this book is peoples dreams. Everyone has dreams in life and some push themselves far enough for those dreams to come true. In this story things get hectic for this family but they are able to lift each other up and live the life that they have always dreamed of. Throughout the 1950's there was a lot of racism and it was hard for a family living in Chicago to have dreams

 

Catcher in the Rye

This book takes place in New York. It is a story about a boy and his troubles with his life. He leaves his school and heads off to New York. He has no idea where he is going of what he is doing but he needs to get away. After a few days of wondering around and learning more about himself he realizes he needs to go back to school and will attend the next year.

The theme of this book is loneiness. Holden is lonely throughout the book. He trys to find ways to talk to people, and meet up with people he hasn't talked to in a while. He is not very successful in meeting any of these people of solving the problem of not being lonley.

 

Of Mice and Men

 

This book is about a boy named George who has to take care of his mentally retarded friend Lenny. George and Lenny have the dream of owning their own farm and piece of land that they can take care of. They are always working as hard as they can to make some money. George is always yelling at Lenny for not doing the right thing. He can not handle the pressure of always having to look after Lenny.

 

The theme of this book is also dreams, much like the play A Rasin in the Sun. George and Lenny have the dream of owning their own piece of land. They do everything they can to try and earn money to one day own their own piece of land.
