Vector Games

(if you have some historic info you would like me to add to this page, please email me)

In 1978 Cinematronics released the first vector game named "Space Wars".

Atari shortly followed with the release of Lunar Lander in 1979, later that year atari released one of the most popular games of all times, "Asteroids".

In 1981 Atari released Tempest, the first color vector game. Sega soon followed with the release of Space Fury.

Many vector games followed with the bulk of them being created by Atari, Cinematronics & Sega.
There was at least one vector game release by Midway, Exidy, & Centuri.

The last vector game to be release (as far as I know) was "The Empire Strikes Back" in 1985, and it was only release as a conversion to Star Wars.

New Games

It's now 1999 and there have not been any vector arcade games released in last decade and a half, until now.

I am currently working on a rewrite of "Space Wars" in color. I've chosen Space Duel hardware for it to run on, for obvious reasons.

I am also working on a 2nd 2 player game with the help of Anders Knudsen. We still have a long ways to go until it's finished, but it's coming along nicely and looks really cool. We are going to stay tight lipped on this one until we get closer to finishing it.

If we make a single player mode for any of these games, I will port them over to gravitar hardware, and maybe even asteroids / asteroids deluxe. There's also the possibility of porting 2 player games to asteroids cocktail machines.

One piece of hardware we are thinking about developing would allow 2 machines to be hooked together. If we were able to pull this off, it would allow a space duel and a gravitar to be linked and you could play a 3 player space wars, or 2 space duels could be linked for a 4 player space wars.

Following are some pictures of my space wars.
