Ancas, M. Mazda RX-7 Performance Handbook. MBI Publishing Company. 2000. Osceola, WI. This book isn't terrific, but it's not bad and it's cheap. Much of the information is either commonly available on the RX-7 forum. Some of the information is misleading, wrong or out of date. I think this book is better than most give it credit for, because it contains information all in one place and beginners will have trouble getting stated without a basis of information that this book provides.

Clarke, R. M. Mazda RX-7 Gold Portfolio: 1978-1991. Brookland Books Ltd. 1991. Surrey UK. This book contains magazine reviews of RX-7s from across the english speaking world. It's interesting to see how the vehicles were received at the time. My only problem with the book is that it is a little FB and UK centric. I know for a fact that there are some interesting FC reviews that were left out. Some of these can be found on www.iluvmyrx7.com. (site is often down)

Long, B. RX-7: Mazda's Rotary Engine Sportscar. Veloce Publishing Ltd. 2001. Dochester UK. This book is an good overview of the Mazda RX-7 with plenty of details, including pre-RX-7 details. I would recommend it. A couple of things that bothered me about the book were that it had excrutiating detail on the FB. I don't feel like I needed to know about every detail of the availble FB options/changes for each year, when there were other details I would have liked to have learned about. The other thing that is apparent is that the author is not what I'd call a hardcore rotary/RX-7 enthusiast like most of the readers. I just felt his spin was too negative and didn't discuss the positives enough. Apparently this book has recently been re-released in 2004, perhaps with more details on the series 7 and 8 models and RX-8, but that's purely speculative. My point is, ensure that you get the new book.

Matras, J. Mazda RX-7: Sports Car Color History. MBI Publishing Company. 1994. Osceola, WI. This book is fairly similar to Brian Long's book, in that it's an overview of all of the RX-7s (pre-series 7). It contains good information and does the basic overview well. It also has some information that I have never seen anywhere else, but that is the exception, not the norm. It do recommend this book and it's fairly inexpensive, but not as long as the Brian Long book.

Norby, J. The Wankel Engine. Chilton. 1971. Philadelphia. If you can find this book, buy/read it, you will not regret it. It's a terrfic look at rotary engines with information with a depth that you will not find anywhere else. The information is a little old, but this is a must read for anyone with interest in the rotary engine. Much of the information is from NSU patent specifications and has the terrificly specific details. My only critisism is that this book is a tad dry as it is a near-engineering treatment on rotary engines of the time. There is information on engines and vehicles from NSU, Curtis Wright, Mazda, Mercedes and others. This book gives you access to information that few others are aware of.

Yamaguchi, J. M. The New Mazda RX-7 and Mazda Rotary Engine Sports Cars. St. Martin's Press. 1985. New York. This is a terrific book that Mazda gave out on the second generation RX-7. This book contains all sorts of unique information that simply cannot be found anywhere else. Examples? How about finite element module analysis of the DTSS? Did you know that the rear bushing on the A-arm of the front suspension has a stiffness in the axial direction of 50kg/mm, while in the logitudinal direction it is 450kg/mm? Did you know that in 1972, the peripheral port was banned in Japanese racing so Mazda developed a bridge port that started on the side housing like a typical bridgeport, but then entended into the peripheral housing like a peripheral port? There are some terrific pictures too. Reading this book is like finding lost treasure. It it difficult to find this book and I paid through the nose, but it is well worth it.

Yamaguchi, J. M. The Mazda RX-7: Mazda's Legendary Sports Car. Ring Ltd. 1992. Japan. This is another terrific book given out by Mazda, but this time on the third generation RX-7. It is a good read, but it lacks the length and specific details found in the FC book. I really enjoyed all of the terrific pictures that are found in this book. Typically this book can be found fairly cheaply, so do not hessitate to buy it.
