| Plot, Part 1: Linda (a 20-year old beauty) abruptly and unexpectedly leaves the employment of an MD, Joe King. She had been a research assistant for Joe (helping him to write a book about the practice of medicine). When Joe learns about her quitting the job, and he contacts her (by phone) about it, he discovers that she has been hiding romantic feelings about him. He tells her about similar feelings he has been having about her. He explains that he has never asked her for dates because he objects to men his age (about 55, I'm thinking) dating or marrying women as young as she, when women the man's age are available to him. As one of many reasons for this position, he describes all the heartbreak (etc...) he has witnessed in wives "dumped" for a younger woman, by older men. They discuss this at length. She offers to adopt a disguise that effectively hides her youthful age. He tentatively agrees to this, IF the disquise really is as good as she claims it is. They agree to meet in a public location, at a gathering of many people. After Joe has arrived he is approached by a woman who appears to be around 55. He learns that it is Linda. He is amazed. The disguise really is very good. They get married in a semi-secret way that enables them to securely hide the fact that Linda was the young woman that had been a research assistant for him. They carefully figure out a way to integrate themselves into a retirement community (a place he has selected for them to move to). |
