A policewoman "dusts" a stolen SUV
photos by Jeff Opal, taken in Nov 2002
I was fixing a flat on my car when the two men shown in the bottom photo drove up. The older man (a white male, around 50 years old) was driving the van that the two are leaning against in that photo. The black male began walking around the dark green SUV, and talking into a cellphone the whole time. He was directing someone to this location (I later realized he had been talking to a police dispatcher). Around five minutes later this policewoman arrived. I began talking with the older man. I found out that he is a Chemistry professor at LSU. The young black male is one of his grad students. The young man had had this SUV stolen from him two days previously, when he left the keys in the ignition when it was parked by a gas pump at a convenience store on Highland Road. When he came out of the store his SUV was gone. Someone had jumped into it and driven it away!
The cop needed around 25 mintues to finish collecting fingerprints from the outside surface of the SUV. The two men were patiently watching her the whole time, as they are shown in this photo. I walked my two dogs, and walked around the three of them, and took five photos. I thought these two were the best, and should appear with my other photos on these web pages. Cops visit my apartment complex often, even though there are only about 68 apartments. I estimate that cops visit around 25 times a year (about once every two weeks).
