A method I've invented that insures that I will never again accidentally leave on one of my stove's burners.

The simple method employs an item of clothing that I ordinarily would never wear because I feel so strange about how it appears. The necklace dangling from the "roof" of my stove is one that I feel quite embarrassed to be seen wearing. I've worn necklaces before (e.g., I usually have one on that holds a small container containing a pair of earplugs.), however, I strongly dislike wearing any kind of ornamentation that doesn't have some obvious defensible purpose (such as a conversation piece, or something to hold a useful item such as earplugs). This necklace is one I got from one of the yearly festivals in Louisiana called "Mardi Gras" (occuring once yearly, mainly around 70 miles south of Baton Rouge, in New Orleans, Louisiana). The two rules of my system are: (1) before I can turn on any of my stove's burners, the necklace MUST BE around my neck. (2) before I can remove the necklace, I must be stituated near the stove, sufficiently close to be able to clearly see both the burners and the buttons for turning them on and off. I MUST SEE that all the stove burners are OFF. Then, and only then, can I remove the necklace.
By following these two simple rules, I guarantee that if one or more of my stove burners is on, the necklace will be around my neck. That, in turn, guarantee's that I won't be able to leave my apartment (where I can be seen by others) without feeling embarrassment about wearing the dumb-looking (IMO) necklace.
If that happens, I will of course wonder why I'm wearing the necklace, and will realize that one of my stove burners is probably turned on. Another danger is the possibility of my deciding to take a nap when the stove burner is on. The necklace is one that his heavy and irritating to me when I lay down and/or try to sleep (in any type of position). The necklace hence will prevent me from sleeping without drawing my attention to the fact that I've left on a stove burner.
