The display has always (by "always" I mean: every time I, Jeff Opal, have looked at it) had a small number of handheld computers (around 7). It appears to me that this Sears store isn't investing much display space or salesperson effort or training in trying to sell handheld computers. Some evidence: salespersons I've spoken to at this store seem to know no more than the average American does about handheld computers. However, I suspect that the store is selling enough of them to justify having such a small display. I suspect that many persons have bought handhelds from Sears, and that such persons typically know they could get the exact same device from another store in their city, but they buy it from Sears because Sears has such a good reputation with them. That is, they feel safer buying the machine from Sears, because they have bought many other products in the past from Sears and have been pleased with how Sears has treated them. |
