Entry for December 3, 2006...it's all about community

Hi folks,

Today our gang were excited because there were two open houses in our neighborhood.  One at Centre Street and the other at Corner House.  Yes it is Advent but I am finding life at L'arche Daybreak marches to a different drum.

Here the primary focus is community.  It is about coming together and sharing excitement and stories.  it is about introducing family and friends to one another.  It is about the blending of families into one community of love.

The two open houses were filled with the love for one another.  It was a chance for friendships to deepen and new ones to form. Also in Corner house, three of the girls do not get out much so it is a chance for them to have visitors.

Our gang went all dressed in Santa caps or Elves hats and were the talk of the two houses.  Everyone laughed at our creativity and thought it brought such life to the parties.  Pictures were taken with the hats on and much laughter was heard, blending in with the munches of cookies and the slurp of hot apple cider.

It was a tiring afternoon, but again one that reinforced how people do not stick to their own house...they go from house to house and celebrate.  This Advent season is a time of waiting. And there was waiting for guests to arrive and the welcome and hospitality shown were just amazing.

Until next time...a great Advent time to you.

Jeff
