Entry for November 17, 2006..the twists and turns
photo

Hi everyone,

On my days away I love to wander down into the city with my digital camera and take pictures.  This one of City Hall strikes me in my own personal journey. The arches in front are part of a park that turns into a skating rink in the winter. I loved the arches that bend and twist and turn and seem to set themselves up as a foreground to City Hall. I look at the building itself in the background and love how the two blend in within the picture.

I could look at my own spiritual journey and see the buildings in the back as the goal of the journey.  There is an ultimate desire to head for home, both physically and spiritually. And really there is no difference between the two.  But I think to focus solely on the building is to miss the twist and turns of the structure in front of it.  It has its own beauty, its own meaning and it wants to pull us into it.

In my own spiritual journey, there is a tendency to think that the end goal is the building.  But maybe it is to live in the twisted bending curving pieces in front of me.  Maybe the goal is to see how my life has twisted and turned and enter into what that is calling me to work out. It is not always easy to see what is happening in one's life, but in stepping back, in daring to walk into the midst of one's story....well is to step into one's heart.

And so my sabbatical year is about the journey and living in the midst of my story and working through all those things that will help me ceom home to my heart.  Keep praying for me. Until next time!

Jeff
