Hi everyone,
Well again night time has rolled around and I put the finishing touches on another day here.
My days are always interesting, but you might think by the sounds of my blog that it is all parties. I do have other duties. Each morning after I help with medication (if I am on), I help with breakfast if needed and then set into my chores. I am responsible for cleaning Mike and John's room as well as the bathroom and kitchen on the main floor. This involves, the beds, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors and washing them down as well as emptying trash containers. Today I also cut the grass in front of the house, did one load of laundry (bedding and made the beds). I also took the van to the garage for some repairs. I can't believe I am in charge of the maintenance schedule of the van. I will learn how to do things like adding oil (which I never did before) so pray for me...ha! It is interesting but as well as this being part of my duties, there is a deeper sense of community that is involved in these duties. There is a belief that like families, clean rooms, fresh smells of cleanliness, safe vehicles, etc is a sign of love and respect. Nothing is too small and without meaning at L'Arche. It is all about love and community.
I am now driving core members to and from work, to activities. That is busy. I understand a bit how moms and dads feel taking their kids to and from things and listening to the stories and excitement as they pile into the van. Tonight Mike Ricci and I took David Harmon out for coffee. That was a hoot. I had to tell David about 5 times not to light up his pipe either at the coffee shop, or in the van. He had a crack at Phil or two.
Anyway I say goodnight!!!
Jeff
